Lucanis Dellamorte is a complex and intriguing romanceable companion in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. He is a high-ranking member of the Antivan Crows and known as the "Demon of Vyrantium." He is renowned for his ruthlessness and skill, but behind this fearsome reputation lies a man burdened by a dark past. Haunted by the consequences of his actions, he grapples with his family's legacy and the inner turmoil caused by demonic possession. Romancing him means accepting him for who he is and helping him do the same.
He is looking for redemption and a sense of belonging, yearning for something beyond the cold embrace of the Crow's hideout. Lucanis is a complicated man, capable of both immense violence and surprising vulnerability. He can be harsh and demanding, but he also possesses a deep sense of loyalty, and if you break his trust with your decisions, you can lock him out of a romance forever. So make sure to have a good plan when going after him because he's one of the romanceable companions in DA: The Veilguard and you can mess up without meaning.
How To Romance Lucanis Dellamorte In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Making Lucanis Your Romantic Companion
Lucanis' romance requires making critical choices in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Most critically, you must choose to save Treviso instead of Minrathous after the A Warden's Best Friend quest. It's his home and means a lot to him, and saving Minrathous hardens Lucanis's stance, completely blocking off the romance path. There are also a few dialogue choices that will make him like you a lot. The table below details when the most important decisions come up and what to do during them.
On Blighted or Deadly Wings | Choice between aiding Minrathous or Treviso after "A Warden's Best Friend." | We help Treviso. | Saving Treviso is mandatory for romancing Lucanis. Choosing Minrathous locks you out of the romance. Lucanis greatly approves. Neve becomes hardened. |
Coffee with the Crows (Act One) | Lucanis invites you to a cafe in Treviso. | I don't buy it (regarding Zara's location) / Flirtatious options about coffee and first kisses (optional). | Increases approval and lays the groundwork for romantic interest. |
Lighthouse (Act Two) | Lucanis has a "sleepwalking" episode where Spite takes over. | I don't mind (Flirt) | Expresses romantic interest but does not lock in the romance. |
Inner Demons (Act Three) | Follow up quest after "Restless Spirits" and "Walking the Graves." Deal with Zara. | We're both just fine. | Sets up the commitment conversation. |
Inner Demons (Act Three) - Continued | Return to the lighthouse after the quest. Lucanis discusses your favorite drink. | You're sweet, you know. | Commits to the romance with Lucanis. |
Any Time | Purchase from the Antivan Crows Shop in Treviso (90 gold, 10 Flawless Crystals). | Give Lucanis the Antivan Tea Set | Starts the "Fit for a Crow" quest and increases approval. |
There is more than just the table above to get him to fall in love with Rook; things like saying the wrong thing when it's revealed that he's got a demon within him will lock out the romance entirely.

The Best Slayer Build in Dragon Age: The Veilguard takes into account the skills, companions, and gear needed to beat every enemy in your way.
Luckily, only the above options are important; other options throughout the game will just move his affinity for Rook a bit more or less, and a good idea to keep him happy is just to have him around during quests. For example, having him around during A Slow Poison Quest will raise his appreciation toward you.
An easy way to raise any companion's affinity is to take them on multiple side quests. Those tend not to have ways to make the companion mad and end their relationship with your raising.
Lucanis appreciates directness and a no-nonsense approach. You can get him to like you more by mirroring his demeanor and favoring tough and nonchalant conversation responses. Avoid overly emotional or idealistic pronouncements, particularly early on, because that's when you'll have more opportunities to lose affinity points. While he appreciates a listening ear regarding his personal struggles with Spite and his responsibilities, avoid coddling him or offering empty-sounding compliments. The list below includes all the decisions you can make to raise his affinity in a direct way.
- Sea of Blood: When Lucanis asks for a minute, choose "Welcome to the team." Avoid hovering or prying ("Should you be alone now?" while flirtatious, is poorly received).
- The Siege of Weisshaupt: When the First Warden gives an order, choose "Well, I tried talking" (supports Lucanis' respect for direct action). Later, when Lucanis comments on the situation, choose "We fight to the end."
- After the Storm: Express concern about him ("You've upset Lucanis") to show you're paying attention. Avoid criticizing Antivan coffee.
- Blood of Arlathan: Choose responses that prioritize the mission ("That's why we'll win," "Job's still the same," "Be ready to go").
- For the Love of Treviso: Side with the Crows ("I stand with the Crows, too"). Expressing skepticism towards the Butcher is a good choice, given Lucanis' Crow sensibilities.
- Bidding Farewell: Offer practical help ("Tell us what you need"). Avoid appearing to dismiss Illario's concerns.
- Bloodbath: Choose "It's over, Zara" to show your support and willingness to defend him. Later, when he expresses vulnerability, choose "It doesn't change how I feel."
Acknowledge his burdens, but focus on practical solutions and demonstrate your strength and resilience. He respects those who can commit violence when necessary. Also, do not disrespect the Crows in any fashion because this disrespects what he believes in and is a part of. Finally, don't shy away from discussions about his family or his passion for coffee, as these are areas where he's more open and willing to share. While this seems complicated, it works out well if you try to empathize with him.
If you complete Neve and Lucanis's individual questlines but don't start an exclusive romance with Lucanis, they will develop a romantic relationship. You can see scenes of their relationship at the Lighthouse. So you can rest assured that they will have a happy ending regardless of what you do in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
