Saber Interactive's highly anticipated Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launches today for those who paid for the Gold or Ultra edition, and next week for those who bought the standard version. Space Marines 2 supports cross-play, with some limitations, and cross-save options for those who opt in. Here's how it works.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Cross-Play

A community update by Focus Entertainment details how cross-play works. In a nutshell, full cross-play will be supported on day one for all platforms. Both PC and console players will be able to join one another in a lobby whenever they want to play the campaign or PvE missions. There are some limits to PvP, which should help keep things competitive. Those playing on PC will only be able to play against other PC players, while those on console will only be able to play against other console players. If players want to game with people only on the same platform as them, they can also turn off cross-play at any given moment.

The same community update page also mentions that cross-save will be available thanks to the platform Prism Ray Online Services (PROS). This feature allows players to link their save to any platform. So, if they have a PC version of this game and want to play it on a console, their save will carry over without fear of losing any progress.

Be sure to check out our Space Marines 2 review-in-progress, where Richard Wakeling wrote, "Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a more-than-worthy successor to the 2011 original. Its brutally gory action is as riveting as ever, but it's also more considered and tactile, making for a much more satisfying experience."
