Cover ImagesA new trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu has been released, and it shows how Disney has fixed its Pedro Pascal problem right on time. Disney has greatly expanded the Star Wars universe, and after the sequel trilogy, the studio has mostly focused on Star Wars TV shows. One of its biggest hits to date is The Mandalorian, set five years after Return of the Jedi.
The story of the title Mandalorian, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), is now continuing in the movie The Mandalorian and Grogu. Directed by Jon Favreau (who also created the TV show), The Mandalorian and Grogu is set after the events of the show, and follows Djarin and Grogu after the fall of the Galactic Empire.
Of course, one of the biggest draws of The Mandalorian and Grogu is Pedro Pascal, who, due to the lore of his character, wears a helmet most of the time, but Disney has found a way around it for the movie.
The Mandalorian & Grogu Found A Way To Show Pedro Pascal's Face
The Mandalorian went deeper into the lore of Mandalorians, explaining the practices and rules followed by this group. One of them is never showing their faces to any living being, so they must wear their helmets at all times when in public. If one breaks this rule, they become an outcast.
Din Djarin followed this rule for a long time, but in The Mandalorian, he showed his face to Grogu and later learned that not all Mandalorians adhere to that rule. Djarin removing his helmet was one of the biggest moments of The Mandalorian, so of course, many wondered if he would show his face in the movie or not.
Luckily, the newest trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu shows that Djarin will show his face at different points. In the trailer, Djarin’s helmet is removed when he’s taken to the Hutts and later when he faces a bigger threat. The Hutts taking Djarin’s helmet off makes sense, as they wouldn’t care about respecting the Mandalorians’ beliefs.
Why The Mandalorian Never Committed To Helmetless Din Djarin
As mentioned above, Din Djarin never removing his helmet in front of anyone is part of his beliefs as part of the Children of the Watch. This is the biggest reason why The Mandalorian didn’t show much of Djarin without his helmet, and it also helped build mystery and tension around the character, while also making his silhouette more identifiable.
Djarin always wearing his helmet forced the show to focus on his body language and voice rather than facial expressions, which, in a way, makes way for a more complex and deep portrayal by Pascal. The helmet rule of the Mandalorians is also key to Djarin’s development, as he eventually questions his beliefs as a Mandalorian.
The Mandalorian & Grogu Could Have Pascal's Best Star Wars Performance
By showing Din Djarin without his helmet in The Mandalorian and Grogu, the movie could have Pedro Pascal’s best Star Wars performance to date. As mentioned above, Djarin never taking his helmet off required a different approach to portraying the character, but taking the helmet off makes way for a more complete performance.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is not only action-packed but also has a heavy emotional charge, showing the range of Pedro Pascal’s acting skills. The Mandalorian and Grogu looks quite promising, and it has the potential to regain the audience’s attention after the sequel trilogy wasn’t as well-received as expected.
