Marking the beginning of year four for Disney Lorcana, the latest set continues to not only build on the intriguing story that the trading card game is unraveling, but some cards introduce all-new game mechanics to switch up play dynamics. Set 13, Disney Lorcana: Attack of the Vine! also marks the debut of popular Pixar characters from Monsters, Inc., Up, and Turning Red while building on the Lorcana lore of Winnie the Pooh characters.

There's a lot going on with Attack of the Vine! and ScreenRant was given an early look at some of the products and cards ahead of its release in a couple of weeks. Prerelease events for Disney Lorcana: Attack of the Vine! will take place at Disney Parks and registered local game stores on July 17, 2026. Then, the full mass market release of the set will follow on July 24, everywhere Disney Lorcana products are sold.

Monsters, Inc., Up, Turning Red, And Winnie The Pooh Fill The Collection

The game's previous set, Disney Lorcana: Wilds Unknown, marked the start of Pixar characters joining the TCG. The Toy Story franchise in particular drew attention, with the Buzz Lightyear Iconic card becoming one of the most sought-after cards in the history of Lorcana, currently valued at just over $4,000 according to TCGPlayer.

For Attack of the Vine! even more Pixar franchises are being added, with Monsters, Inc. headlining the set and being featured in the key artwork and promotional materials. However, it's surprising that, particularly after the Buzz Lightyear success, Monsters, Inc. characters aren't the Iconics for this set. Neither are any characters from the other new Pixar properties, Up, and Turning Red. Instead, Lilo and Stitch and Beauty and the Beast hold the honor of being the Iconic chase cards of the set.

As someone who grew up watching Winnie the Pooh on repeat and currently has figures of the yellow bear on her work desk, I am understandably excited about the plethora of Winnie the Pooh cards that have been added to Attack of the Vine!. These cards have beautifully transformed the Hundred Acre Woods inhabitants into a classic adventuring party, with Tigger taking on the role of Barbarian, Rogue Roo, and even Christopher Robin appearing as the Hunny Sage.

Of course, this Pooh-themed assortment is perfectly timed to build on the excitement of the next Illumineer's Quest co-op adventure, Disney Lorcana: Illumineer's Quest: The Great Hunny Rescue, which will be released on October 2.

Game Mechanic Changes With Attack Of The Vine!

Disney Lorcana is about more than just pretty cards and fun variations on familiar characters. The TCG likes to keep things fresh for players through regularly introducing new game mechanics as well as having the yearly set rotation. With Attack of the Vine! there are quite a few changes happening.

  • Set rotation removes Year 2 sets from Core Constructed formats.
  • 207 cards in the set rather than 204.
  • Dual inks make a comeback, encouraging certain ink combinations.
  • Duo Shift and Combo Shift added where you shift a card on top of two cards rather than one, for huge rewards.
  • Temporary Shift allows players to shift cards for one turn and then return only the shifted card to their hand, leaving the shift base in play.
  • "Christopher Robin: Hunny Sage" card allows players to have all Hunny characters in their deck, regardless of ink type.

One of the most obvious changes that Attack of the Vine! has over other sets, is that this is the first Disney Lorcana set to have 207 cards rather than the traditional 204, not including secret cards.

"Christopher Robin: Hunny Sage" card allows players to have all Hunny characters in their deck, regardless of ink type.

Up until now, Disney Lorcana players were limited to decks that consisted of no more than two ink colors. This helped to streamline decks into certain playstyles, but now Christopher Robin is shaking that up. As long as you have the Legendary Christopher Robin card in your deck, you can include all Winnie the Pooh cards with the Hunny designation, despite them being spread across all ink types.

Given the popularity of creating Lorcana decks based on specific franchises, it will be fun to see if similar rules begin popping up on other cards in the future.

As usual, Disney Lorcana is releasing a special Illumineer's Trove with the launch of Attack of the Vine!. The decorative storage box includes vibrant artwork with characters from Monsters, Inc., Turning Red, The Little Mermaid, Winnie the Pooh, and Mickey Mouse himself. Inside the box you will find the following:

  • 1 Lore counter
  • 6 Damage-counter dice
  • 6 Card dividers with different artwork on each side
  • 8 Booster packs (each including 12 randomized cards from the set)

Additionally, Attack of the Vine! has a new Prerelease box available for those who attend Prerelease events at Disney Parks or registered local game stores. This includes six Attack of the Vine! booster packs, a paper deck box, four damage-counter dice, one organized play Promo Card, and one of three possible posters.

What's Next For Disney Lorcana?

For anyone following the story of Disney Lorcana, Attack of the Vine! finishes out this portion of the overarching narrative. The first four sets focused on Ursula releasing the flood, then Jafar's reign of terror comprised the next four. Despite a brief pause with the Fabled set, we are now seeing the conclusion of the thorny vines and revealing who is behind this predicament.

Therefore, set 14, Hyperia City, will be primed to begin the next story arc which presumably will follow four more sets. The cheerful Hyperia City is set to be released this October, with the villain-heavy set 15, Into the Inkdark, coming at the beginning of 2027.

Final Thoughts On Attack Of The Vine!

Attack of the Vine! iconic and enchanted cards

Attack of the Vine! is an impressive set, and given that it's the start of another year of Lorcana, it is a great place for new players to jump in. The artwork is stunning, and the storyline continues to be just as captivating as ever, even after a couple of years of evolution. I have been a huge fan of this TCG since The First Chapter, but with the new Shift mechanics, Hunny designations, and Pixar properties joining the game, Attack of the Vine! is easily my new favorite set.

Changing things with new game mechanics is always sure to make some waves in the player base, but it's important for a TCG to continue to evolve and grow, and helps to push players to try out new ways to play the game. If anything, Attack of the Vine! has only made me more excited for what the future holds for Disney Lorcana.
