This time, Discworld will be putting some of the keys of storytelling into the hands of the community. Courtesy of the proficient publisher Modiphius Entertainment, Adventures in Ankh-Morpork takes fans back to its titular city and sets them up to have their own comical experience.
Adventures in Ankh-Morpork is the first 21st-century Discworld tabletop role-playing game, slotting into the same market as titles like Dungeons & Dragons. Crowdfunded on Kickstarter in late 2024, it's now gearing up to proliferate throughout local game stores in 2026. The core rulebook includes rules, lore, and a few adventures, while further adventures can be found in supplementary tomes.
For those wanting to give the game a spin, Modiphius offers an Adventures in Ankh-Morpork quickstart guide as a free PDF download. True to the freewheeling philosophy of Discworld, Adventures in Ankh-Morpork is designed to get less bogged down in the rules than D&D, and actually encourages players to push the limited guidelines to their breaking point.
If you ask me, Ankh-Morpork is essentially the perfect setting for a tabletop game. Not only is it dense with variety and opportunity, but it's inherently comical nature goes hand-in-hand with the roleplaying experience. Even horror-themed tabletop campaigns tend to be filled with plenty of goofing off, so a system that actually makes silliness the priority might be a match made in heaven.
Of course, it'll probably help if everyone gathered around the game table is familiar with Discworld, as it's decidedly different from the typical fantasy experience. That might not be a bad thing, though, as any excuse to get your friends to read Mort is probably a good one.
Modiphius seems to be keeping itself very busy, as this isn't the only Discworld game coming this year. Discworld: Readers Digested is a new board game based on Blue Moon City, Kill Sam Vines takes on a card game format, and Adventures in Lancre and Uberwald will take the RPG format to the setting of Lancre. Basically, if you've read every Terry Pratchett book cover-to-cover, this is the year to start taking matters into your own hands and embark on some fresh Discworld adventures.
