Moore had been considered a top contender for the Best Actress prize after her stunning turn in The Substance.

But while she didn't take home the big award, she revealed she found something even more meaningful.

‘I try to look at each day as making choices so that each experience, no matter how big or small, I walk away with it being meaningful and memorable,’ she began in the V Magazine chat.

‘I was thinking about Oscar night, and there was a moment at the end when it was kind of chaotic, and we were trying to navigate to get back to the hotel without getting crushed in the crowd.

‘And there was another actress who was looking a little bit lost, and knowing that, I stopped to take the time to say, “Where are you going? Are you going this way? Come with us.’”

‘And it gave me a real moment where I’m like, not just worried about me.’

The star also reflected on her growth as an actor over the years, having started as a teen.

'I didn’t come from a background of training, and I didn’t grow up in school doing plays. I didn’t have a foundation to fall on, like a barometer. I was flying by the seat of my pants, which can feel a little bit like, “Did I get it? Did it work?”,' she began.

'This is when I was really young, I was almost afraid to be in an acting class, because I thought that if they told me I wasn’t any good, I’d be told that I couldn’t do it well.

'So the arc of my own growth and learning has been to stop questioning why I’ve been chosen and just to step up and show up. Because, regardless of why, it's not for me to question why. It’s just for me to show up and be of service.'

She also looked back at her star-studded filmography, from the cheeky charm of One Crazy Summer (1986) to the heart-stopping romance of Ghost (1990) and the powerhouse performance in G.I. Jane (1997), noting how the public has perceived her over the years.

'The more appreciation and value I find for myself, I feel, the more that I get that reflection back in the world,' she said.

'So if there’s ever been limitations of perception about me, I think it’s because I’ve held doubt and insecurity.

'I feel like the universe has met me where I’ve been. I put a lot of stake (on thinking) that if I got it wrong, I would lose everything.'

The interview comes after Moore reflected on her age-defying looks, following her and Zoe Saldaña’s appointment as the newest global ambassadors for Lancôme - a star-studded lineup that includes Julia Roberts, Olivia Rodrigo, and Christy Turlington.

Speaking to ELLE, Moore explained that starring in The Substance reinforced her love of skincare and staying healthy, declaring confidently that ‘ageing is a gift.’

'Filming The Substance was a very intense, visceral experience that really highlighted the dangers of self-judgment,' she explained.

'The most beautiful thing we can do is care for ourselves with kindness. I’ve viewed wellness and skin care as an act of gratitude, but this experience helped underscore that. I want to use products that work with my skin to help it stay resilient and healthy.'

Sharing the 'life-changing' secret behind her youthful and taut appearance, the Ghost star said: 'I’ve become very intentional about my evening routine.

'Taking the time to truly transition from the chaos of the day into a state of rest has been life-changing, and part of that is doing my skin care. It’s the small, daily acts of self-care that lead to the most enduring results.'
