The Nasdaq-listed Solana treasury firm keeps buying, but at a far slower clip than its September pace

DeFi Development Corp has added another 5,336 SOL and equivalent tokens to its balance sheet. The Nasdaq-listed company (ticker: DFDV) now holds approximately 2,600,948 SOL.

A smaller bite from a very big appetite

The company announced the acquisition on November 2, 2026. The new tokens nudged its total holdings to roughly 2.6 million SOL.

For context, the firm was buying much more aggressively not long ago. In September 2026, its weekly purchases topped 100,000 SOL.

Recent buys have dropped to smaller volumes, generally in the low tens of thousands. This latest addition of 5,336 tokens sits below even that range.

The slowdown appears deliberate. The research behind the announcement describes it as a shift toward smaller, more controlled increments of accumulation rather than a retreat from the strategy.

Chief Executive Joseph Onorati has indicated that the company’s buying is tailored to take advantage of Solana’s network improvements. He has also tied it to the firm’s broader growth and expansion within digital assets.

How the treasury got this big

DeFi Development Corp was formerly known as Janover. It pivoted to a Solana-focused treasury strategy in 2025.

Back in May 2025, the company held roughly 400,000 SOL. By November 2026, that figure had climbed past 2.6 million.

The company has funded its accumulation through public market capital raises.

One key tool is its Variable Rate Series C Perpetual Preferred Stock, which trades on Nasdaq under the ticker CHAD.

The annual dividend rate on that preferred stock rose from 13% to 14%, effective November 2, 2026. That is the same day the latest SOL purchase was disclosed.

A perpetual preferred has no maturity date. Investors receive a dividend for as long as the shares remain outstanding, and the company gets capital without diluting common shareholders the way a new stock offering would.

Staking, SPS, and the Alpenglow backdrop

DeFi Development Corp doesn’t just park its tokens. The company runs Solana validators and stakes its treasury SOL to earn yield.

The firm frames its progress around a metric called SOL per share, or SPS. The idea is simple: if each share of the company represents more SOL over time, shareholders are theoretically getting more underlying exposure for their money.

The latest purchases also arrive shortly after a notable change to Solana itself. On October 21, 2026, the network rolled out the Alpenglow consensus upgrade.

Alpenglow is aimed at bringing transaction finality down to approximately 150 milliseconds.

What this means for DFDV and the treasury model

A company that bought over 100,000 SOL a week in September is now buying in much smaller amounts. That suggests DeFi Development Corp is managing its capital more carefully, especially as the cost of its preferred financing has moved higher.

The CHAD dividend hike cuts both ways. A 14% annualized rate may appeal to income-focused investors, which could make future raises easier to complete.

But it also raises the bar for the strategy itself. The returns from holding and staking SOL need to justify a funding source that now costs the company 14% a year.

For shareholders, the SPS metric remains the scoreboard to watch. Smaller weekly purchases can still move that number if the company avoids issuing too many new common shares in the process.

The company has gone from a few hundred thousand SOL to more than 2.6 million in roughly a year and a half.
