EXCLUSIVE: Thai actress ‘Mim’ Rattanawadee Wongthong, known for her breakout role in hit horror franchise Death Whisperer, has joined the cast of upcoming supernatural horror film Cher alongside actors Pae Arak and Weir Sukollawat.

Rattanawadee will play the lead role in the film, produced by Bangkok-based Fearfolks and Benetone Films, who are launching pre-sales on the project here in Cannes.

Loosely based on the legends of the Nang Mai, Thailand’s mythical forest nymphs, the film is scripted by Patrick Graham, the writer behind Netflix’s Indian horror series Ghoul and Betaal, based on a concept by Songsak Mongkolthong (Graveyard Horror), who is also attached to direct.

Rattanawadee has cemented her role as one of the rising scream queens of Thailand after appearing in all three films in the blockbuster Death Whisperer trilogy, along with Thai horror film Panor and upcoming Djinn’s Curse 2.

Her co-leads in Cher, Pae Arak (The Stone) and Weir Sukollawat (Home For Rent), both recently shared screen time in Thai action film 4 Tigers, which ranked among the top-grossing Thai releases of 2025, earning over more than $3.2M (THB102M) and holding the top spot at the box office for four consecutive weeks.

In Cher, Rattanawadee plays the lead role of the same name, a vengeful spirit out to seek revenge from those who have wronged her in the past.

The story begins with the discovery of a vine-covered corpse near a remote mining camp, leading to rumors that a fearsome forest spirit has awakened to enact vengeance. A police officer is sent to investigate only to clash with his estranged brother Joe, the camp’s hard-edged security boss. As more miners turn up dead, Cher, a dazed young woman appears, seductive, ravenous and out for blood.

Benetone Films co-founders Rachvin and Kulthep Narula said: “As producers with a strong track record of launching great stories, we’ve been aware of Mim’s exceptional talent as an actress for many years. We’re beyond ready to bring Cher to life for audiences worldwide, with its thrilling screenplay and this incredible cast.”

Fearfolks CEO Hans Audric Estialbo added: “It was important that we found the right actress for Cher as it not only is a challenging part to play, but a one-of-kind cinematic character that we foresee to go beyond screens, but also to immersive cinematic experiences in the future. We’re so excited to work with Mim.”

Earlier this year Benetone Films wrapped production for Korean slasher-thriller Perfect Girl, from producers Badlands, Thunder Road, Cho and Desert Bloom, with Scott Strauss leading production. Fearfolks is also set to distribute the film in Thailand.

Fearfolks is also set to release A24’s Mother Mary in Thailand and India, and in has four back-to-back horror releases in Thailand: A24’s Backrooms from Kane Parsons, Hokum and Leviticus from Neon and Eli Roth’s Ice Cream Man.

Cher is scheduled to start shooting in the first quarter of 2027 for release in 2028.
