Since 2019, Kevin Erdmann has been one of Screen Rant's Senior Staff Writers, covering all kinds of Superhero and Star Wars media with Easter egg breakdowns, theory pieces, breaking news, and more. A huge Star Wars & MCU fan, Kevin also loves Batman (because he's Batman), but could talk for hours about why Nightwing is DC's greatest hero.

With 8 years of total experience covering entertainment and pop culture, Kevin has gotten the chance to interview top creatives and talent, and has also attended major media events like Disney's D23 convention.

Majoring in Cinema Studies with a minor in Comics and Cartoon Studies from the UofO, Kevin lives in Oregon with his wonderful wife, adorable dog, and sinister cat who is no doubt currently plotting his demise.

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for DC K.O. #5

In the final pages of the major DC K.O. crossover event, an even bigger event is remarkably teased by Darkseid himself, described as a “Crisis of Absolute Proportions.” Of course, "Crisis" is quite a loaded term for DC Comics (Crisis on Infinite Earths, Infinite Crisis, Dark Crisis, etc.).

As such, it's pretty obvious that this upcoming "Absolute Crisis" event will likely result in major consequences and changes to DC's current status quo (here's what we know so far).

Superman's "King Omega" Saved The Universe At The End Of DC K.O. (But Darkseid Has Bigger Plans)

Darkseid Prepares His Next Moves in DC K.O. #5

The climax of DC K.O. arguably delivered one of the most powerful moments in recent DC Comics history. After Darkseid killed Superman earlier in the storyline, the Man of Steel was ultimately resurrected thanks to an unexpected sacrifice from Doomsday aka Time Trapper. Coming back with major power upgrades, Superman managed to take on Darkseid with major cosmic powers of pure creation and destruction itself.

As the new King Omega, Superman ultimately saved the DC Universe. However, rather than using his power to create a new DC Universe in his own image, Superman shared his power with his allies and restored the DC Universe largely as it was, believing that no one person should have all that power over existence itself.

However, this also meant that Darkseid's defeat was not permanent. As seen in the final pages of DC K.O., the Lord of Apokolips revealed a much bigger endgame in the works beyond one single tournament of fighters from the prime DC Universe as we saw in DC K.O.

Instead, the major DC supervillain reveals that similar King Omega tournaments were taking place across the multiverse, with each one generating massive amounts of Omega energy to make him even stronger over time. Likewise, Darkseid also confirms that his Absolute Universe remains intact. In this new DC Comics reality, the darker versions of DC’s greatest heroes still exist—ready to become Darkseid's ultimate weapons when he needs them.

Darkseid Teases Absolute Crisis in DC K.O. #5

Historically, Crisis events represent the publisher’s biggest crossovers. They typically involve multiversal threats, massive team-ups between heroes, and major changes to DC continuity. As such, Darkseid’s promise of a “Crisis of Absolute Proportions” strongly suggests that DC is preparing for another landmark event that can't be missed.

While details are still scarce, DC fans should likely expect "Absolute Crisis" to be teased and set up in multiple future issues, both in the prime DC Universe and in DC's Absolute Universe titles. Our best guess is that the upcoming event will see the mainline DC Universe clashing with the increasingly popular Absolute Universe.

Without a doubt, this darker and unique new universe has quickly become one of DC’s most exciting new storytelling directions in years, featuring alternate versions of iconic heroes like Absolute Batman, Absolute Superman, and Absolute Wonder Woman.

In DC K.O. #4, manifestations of the Absolute Trinity both brawled and teamed up with DC's more traditional Trinity. However, that was likely just a taste of what DC has planned for Absolute Crisis.

It'd be pretty cool to see the whole of Darkseid's own creation resisting his cosmic power alongside the main DC Universe, though time will tell us what DC's upcoming Crisis has in store and how it will likely change and rewrite DC's Divine Continuum going forward.

DC K.O. #5 is available now from DC Comics.
