EXCLUSIVE: David Zayas (Dexter, The Bear) is set to star opposite Dakota Fanning in Apple TV‘s as-yet-untitled Alex Cary thriller. The previously announced cast also includes Stellan Skarsgård, Daryl McCormack, Grace Gummer, Joely Richardson, Susan Kelechi Watson, and Louisa Krause.

In the series, Fanning stars as an undercover Treasury agent in a multi-billion-dollar international conglomerate with world-changing political and criminal tentacles, who becomes conflicted between her mission and a belief that her principal target, the heir apparent to all that corrupt power, is, at his core, a good man and worthy of her love.

Details regarding Zayas’ role are under wraps.

Hailing from Sony Pictures Television, the untitled thriller is executive produced by Cary, who also serves as creator and showrunner under his overall deal with Sony Pictures Television and his FLW Productions banner. Julie Gardner (Lady in the Lake, Doctor Who) executive produces for Bad Wolf America, and Elle Fanning executive produces alongside Dakota Fanning and Brittany Kahan Ward of Lewellen Pictures (Margo’s Got Money Troubles, The Great). Kari Skogland (Smoke, The Handmaid’s Tale) will direct and serve as executive producer.

Zayas was recently announced to be reprising the role of Angel Batista in Showtime’s Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, although in what way is still a mystery. The legendary fan favorite character, which he has played since the inception of the original Dexter series, was slayed in Season 1 of the spinoff. In 2025, Zayas also starred as Richard Manuel in Edgar Wright’s The Running Man (Paramount), based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. A year prior, he joined the cast of FX’s acclaimed series The Bear in its third season. Additional TV credits include Shut Eye for Hulu, Fox’s Gotham, Bloodline for Netflix, CBS’ Blue Bloods and FBI, as well as FX’s Pose. Zayas is repped by ATA Management, Buchwald & Schreck, Rose, Adams.
