Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there.

Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers.

Dark Souls 3 is considered one of the greatest video game releases of all time, and for good reason. Not only did it mark the perfect finale for the beloved Dark Souls franchise, but it also received praise for its story, bosses, challenging combat, stunning setting, and genre-defying gameplay.

Now, over a decade on from launch and Dark Souls 3 is still remembered fondly, and whilst it seems as though Dark Souls 4 is not on the cards from FromSoftware any time soon, there is another exciting development that we can look forward to.

Courtesy of modder 'Ganaboy’, Dark Souls 3 fans can now look forward to the ultimate way to re-experience the hit game in 2026. This comes courtesy of a brand-new version of Ganaboy's DS Lighting Engine Mod which aims to add real-time Path Tracing to the game, and whilst the project is still in development, a work-in-progress video shows just how stunning the final product will be.

Before now, Ganaboy has launched the DS2LightingEngine mod which, as you can probably guess, improved the lighting for Dark Souls 2. Not only that, but the mod also added path tracing, which is the aim for Dark Souls 3 too.

Put simply, if you have been getting the urge to replay Dark Souls 3 in recent years, you will want to wait for this stunning mod which will completely revolutionize the FromSoftware masterpiece.

Unfortunately, there is no current release window for this upcoming release, but it will definitely be worth the wait, and it seems as though fellow Dark Souls 3 fans agree in the comments of Ganaboy's latest YouTube video.

"It's like watching the Mona Lisa being painted," the top comment reads. Another agreed, adding, "Your work is like DS2-announcement- trailer-levels of quality, absolutely insane!" With another fan saying, "This addresses a lot of the issues I have with DS3 visuals," it seems as though this upcoming mod aims to improve the base game whilst also keeping the magic of the game alive.

With no news of a potential continuation of the Dark Souls franchise, it is mods such as these that are keeping the series alive over 15-years on from the launch of Dark Souls. Whilst the games may stand the test of time, they can always do with a bit of a visual boost, and that is exactly what Ganaboy has achieved with their DS Lighting Engine Mod.
