It's the end of an era for the man without fear. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Daredevil: Born Again's forthcoming third season will also be its last.
Filming for Daredevil: Born Again wrapped two months ago, and it's currently in post-production. Showrunner Dario Scardapane and Marvel have "quietly parted ways," THR reported. Marvel reportedly did not renew his contract, and now it's not clear who will oversee the rest of post-production on the Disney Plus show.
Daredevil: Born Again is a sequel series to the original Netflix Daredevil show. The revival went through a turbulent development period, and was overhauled during the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Originally envisioned as an 18-episode series, Born Again was then split into two separate seasons before a third season was confirmed this time last year.
Ending Daredevil: Born Again is the latest sign that Marvel Studios is winding down its TV offerings on Disney Plus. Marvel renewed Wonder Man for a second season before it surprisingly canceled the show just a few months later. VisionQuest will premiere in October, while Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 will follow in January 2027. The animated Spider-Man series and Born Again's third season are the only shows currently and publicly planned for 2027 — a far cry from past years, when Marvel Studios debuted five shows on Disney Plus in 2021.
What will Daredevil: Born Again season 3 be about?
[Ed. note: Spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again season 2 and potential spoilers for its third season follow.]
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 ended with Mayor Wilson Fisk's (Vincent D’Onofrio) rule of New York City coming to an end. As part of his takedown of Fisk, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) revealed himself to the public as Daredevil, and was promptly arrested. Presumably, we'll find him in jail to start the next season.
Based on set photos, we already have a pretty good idea of who will show up in Daredevil: Born Again's third and final season. After Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) briefly returned in season 2, the whole Defenders gang is back together for season 3. Set photos have revealed the return of Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones) and Luke Cage (Mike Colter), reuniting the Defenders. How much of a role Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage will have remains to be seen.
As Jones and Colter's return shows, never say never with Marvel; while Daredevil: Born Again may be coming to an end, that doesn't necessarily mean this will be it for Cox's Daredevil, Ritter's Jessica Jones, and the rest. Cox has already appeared in a major Marvel Cinematic Universe film with his cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle/The Punisher — who debuted in the Netflix show and appeared in Born Again — has made it to the big screen with a notable role in this summer's Spider-Man: Brand New Day. So, never say never.
