He has long refused to swap his hardman image for Strictly Come Dancing’s sequins.

But now Danny Dyer’s daughter Dani has revealed the real reason her father won’t follow her into the ballroom – he couldn’t face the gruelling hours of training.

‘He’s just said he absolutely wouldn’t. He couldn’t do the training. He couldn’t do it he couldn’t do the hours,’ she told the Daily Mail. ‘He said to me “I just couldn’t be doing all those hours a day baby.”’

Dani’s professional partner Nikita Kuzmin, however, believes the former EastEnders actor would deliver ‘the biggest entertainment you’ve ever seen on the show’.

‘I could see your dad doing it, getting proper into it. It would be the biggest entertainment you’ve ever seen on the show. A Paso or a tango, he’d smash that,’ he said.

Dani agreed: ‘Yes he would be so entertaining wouldn’t he. He can move a little bit.’

Danny has previously revealed that he receives annual approaches to compete on the BBC programme, saying: ‘I’ve got no desire to be mincing around in sequins.’

But while he has little appetite for the rehearsal room, he has been happy to take his place in the audience.

On Saturday, he sat beside fellow screen hardman Ray Winstone as they cheered on their daughters during Strictly’s Icons Week.

Dani and Kuzmin performed a rumba to Mariah Carey’s Hero, earning 25 points and finishing second from bottom of the leaderboard.

Winstone’s daughter Jaime fared better, scoring 34 with professional partner Carlos Gu for their paso doble to David Bowie’s Let’s Dance, putting them joint top.

The fathers’ appearance together came after Winstone jokingly suggested their daughters’ ballroom rivalry could end with a fight in the audience.

Speaking on The Romesh Ranganathan Show last month, he said: ‘Maybe we’ll meet up and me and Danny, while we watch our two daughters, you know, do their thing.

‘And me and Danny can have a fight in the audience. Which would be kind of nice. End Strictly for good.’

He also joked that it would be a ‘liberty’ if Dani received a perfect 40 for her first dance.

Despite the mock rivalry, Winstone was full of affection for his friend’s daughter.

‘Young Dani, you know we go back a long way, you know. I’ve known Danny many, many years. Worked with him a couple of times as well,’ he said.

‘And his little girl’s a lovely kid. You know, she’s a good girl.’

Dani and Kuzmin were speaking to the Daily Mail at Monday night’s Pride of Britain Awards.

Both she and Jaime survived the weekend’s public vote, with Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey becoming the third celebrity to leave the competition.
