At the Bitcoin Asia 2026 conference in Hong Kong, Changpeng Zhao—the founder of Binance widely recognized as CZ—declared that Bitcoin stands poised to eclipse gold’s dominance in the upcoming major bull market. His forecast came during a keynote titled “The Bitcoin Century.”

CZ said governments may take years to shift systems built around valuing and holding bullion toward Bitcoin.

According to Zhao, the valuation differential between Bitcoin and gold has narrowed to approximately a 10x multiple. The precious metal maintains a market capitalization near $32.4 trillion, whereas Bitcoin currently holds a valuation of about $1.6 trillion.

“Bitcoin will undoubtedly become more significant than gold,” Zhao declared. He suggested this transformation could materialize “in the near future” and potentially during the next bullish cycle.

The Precious Metal’s Substantial Advantage

Zhao acknowledged that gold maintains a commanding position. For Bitcoin to achieve superiority, the digital currency would require enormous capital inflows and widespread institutional acceptance.

The primary obstacle, he explained, isn’t Bitcoin’s capabilities but rather the extensive infrastructure nations have established around gold. Countries have invested generations in developing frameworks for assessing, safeguarding, and administering gold as a strategic reserve.

“Transitioning these nations toward Bitcoin requires patience, though it’s inevitable,” Zhao remarked.

Bitcoin experienced a surge exceeding 25% during the previous week. On Thursday, it traded near $79,700, representing a 1.5% increase across 24 hours. Meanwhile, gold also advanced, breaking above the $4,600 threshold.

Zhao’s Blueprint for Government Crypto Holdings

The Binance founder revealed he regularly counsels governments on establishing cryptocurrency reserves. His recommended allocation model positions Bitcoin at approximately 50%, Ethereum between 10% and 20%, with remaining top-tier digital assets comprising the balance.

He conceded the framework carries “some self-interest” given that BNB, the native token of the platform he established, would feature in such holdings.

Zhao drew connections between Bitcoin’s trajectory and artificial intelligence advancement. He anticipates AI agents will embrace cryptocurrency for transactions, initially through stablecoins.

“After integrating stablecoins, incorporating Bitcoin becomes remarkably straightforward,” he explained.

He predicted AI will penetrate trading markets ahead of consumer payment applications. Zhao projects AI could enhance trading efficiency by a factor of ten through superior information analysis and accelerated response to market developments compared to human traders.

The former CEO addressed escalating AI infrastructure expenses. He noted that one gigawatt of computational capacity requires investments ranging from $30 billion to $50 billion, with certain enterprises potentially pursuing hundreds of gigawatts in coming years.

Among his proposals is a “data center token” concept that would grant investors access to computational resources or proprietary AI systems.

Regarding Bitcoin valuation, Zhao suggested it could achieve $1 million faster than market consensus anticipates. However, he emphasized that price appreciation isn’t the ultimate objective. His vision centers on Bitcoin achieving widespread adoption in mainstream payment networks and securing positions within pension portfolios and retirement accounts.
