You Have A New Excuse To Play Cyberpunk 2077
Today, the official PlayStation Blog shared the details of the PS5 Pro update for Cyberpunk 2077, set to go live on April 8. This update will bring both new technology and several different modes to the game to take advantage of the PS5 Pro's hardware, solidifying an experience that should be a world apart from Cyberpunk 2077's rough console launch in 2020.
According to the blog post, the update will take advantage of PlayStation's PSSR scaling technology to bring more detail to the game, similar to what DLSS can achieve on PC and elsewhere. Ray-tracing will also get an update "bringing the lighting even closer to [CDPR's] artistic vision" for Night City.
PS5 players will also be able to select between three different graphics modes. Ray Tracing Pro features the best graphics and lowest frame rate, targeting 40 FPS on variable refresh rate displays and 30 FPS on displays without VRR capabilities.
The standard Ray Tracing mode, meanwhile, hits 60 FPS and a more selective application of ray-tracing. Finally, Performance cuts out the most visual flair, but can hit up to 90 FPS on VRR displays.
The PlayStation 5 Pro Just Got Way More Expensive
The news comes at both a good time and a bad time, oddly. The nice part is that Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, making it accessible for a wider variety of PlayStation users. On the other hand, the PS5 Pro just leaped from a $750 MSRP to $900, so those who don't already have the console might not be interested in investing.
I've always played Cyberpunk 2077 on PC, but I'm happy for some console players to get another upgrade to the game. Cyberpunk 2077's best asset might be its beauty, and the lights of Night City make treating the game as a photography sim just as satisfying as flatlining gonks with stylish kills.
