Seemingly scrapped scene reportedly features intriguing bar chatter
Ubisoft appear to have copyright struck a YouTube video showing off an unused epilogue cutscene datamined from Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The unfinished scene reportedly features Edward Kenway chatting to a character who kicks the bucket at the start of Assassin's Creed 3, and could be interpreted to hint at the potential for some fresh AC adventures to fill in gaps around the first half of the 18th century.
An Assassin's Creed modder going by Sliderv2 looks to be behind the discovery of this alleged extra bit of Black Flag Resynced. I can't verify for sure that's what it appears to be, as the video they'd posted of their findings isn't currently watchable with YouTube indicating it was "removed following a copyright removal request by Ubisoft", while a Reddit thread on the topic has also been yanked "by Reddit’s filters".
According to Kotaku and Insider Gaming, the short scene sees Black Flag protagonist Edward Kenway chatting in a tavern with a character called Miko. The latter's a leader of the British Assassin Brotherhood who ends up being killed by Haytham Kenway, Eddie's Templar son and the father of Assassin's Creed 3 protagonist Connor, early on in AC3.
The scene sounds like it begins with Miko alluding to the death of a king. It's being assumed by folks reading into the scene that this is likely referring to George I of Great Britain kicking the bucket in 1727, a year that lies between the times when Black Flag and its expansion Freedom Cry are set. Miko and Edward appear to go on to chat about calling for help from assassins across the world, with the insinuation that Freedom Cry protagonist and Kenway's quartermaster for most of Black Flag, Adéwalé, will help out. Those speculating see the potential for this to potentially hint at some more AC adventures, either in the form of a new expansion or game, which could fill in gaps around Edward Kenway's post-Black Flag life not already occupied by the existing games and 2012 tie-in novel Assassin's Creed: Forsaken.
Eddie's murdered in 1735, meaning his tale's wrapped up prior to AC3 kicking off in 1754 and Assassin's Creed Rogue's events starting in 1752. So, his time in England from 1725 to his death looks to be the free real estate, assuming it's not already been filled by something like the South Korean-focused webtoon comic series Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple, which I'd totally forgotten exists and apparently provides Kenway a new adventure in Southeast Asia post-Black Flag.
I've asked Ubisoft for comment.
To me, it's equally likely this alleged extra scene is just a bit of bonus easter eggery or fan service Ubi opted to ditch, possibly out of concern that it might lead people to assume they've got 10 million new 18th century AC games in the works.
Check out my Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced review if it's still on your list of games you're considering fitting in before the end of the year.
