Cristiano Ronaldo's fiancee Georgina Rodriguez is branded 'tacky' as she wears racy low-cut Met Gala dress

Cristiano Ronaldo's fiancée Georgina Rodriguez came under fire for her 'tacky' outfit at the 2026 Met Gala that she claimed was inspired by her Catholic faith.

The model, 32, wore a low-cut satin blue dress with a delicate floral veil cascading over her head.

At first glance it appeared Rodriguez was offering a glimpse at her future wedding to her soccer superstar husband-to-be except for the fact her gown had a very racy  low-cut bust.

The dress, created by Ludovic de Saint Sernin, was paired with diamond earrings from Chopard, a pearl and diamond rosary, and of course the $3 million, 30-carat engagement ring Ronald proposed to her with last year.

Armchair fashion critics weren't impressed, with one writing on X: 'This girl is beautiful but this new rich needs some better styling.'

The skeptic added that the look was 'tacky', before another hater chimed in: 'Georgina Rodriguez just seems so tacky and low-class to me.'

Despite the low-cut of her dress, Rodriguez revealed the special meaning behind her gown and the personal touches she included which paid tribute to her family.

Cristiano Ronaldo's fiancee Georgina Rodriguez was channeling bridal chic in a plunging dress inspired by her Catholic faith at the 2026 Met Gala

'This look is inspired in my devotion to the Virgin of Fátima,' she wrote on Instagram. 'The softness of the figure and the light blue tones that define her image became the foundation of the piece, translating spirituality into couture,' she explained on her Instagram.

'It features Ludovic’s signature eyelets and lacing, hand-painted to blend into the pale blue of the garment. The cups are made entirely from French blue lace, woven on traditional Leavers looms in Calais-Caudry, giving the fabric a fluid, almost weightless quality.

'A sheer veil completes the look, finished with hand-embroidered lace flowers. Hidden inside the dress, placed next to my heart, two phrases are hand-embroidered in Spanish: “Donde ella está, el alma encuentra refugio” and “Y líbranos del mal amén.” These words act as a private prayer, carried within the piece.

'The look is accompanied by a custom rosary, conceived as both jewel and relic. Crafted in white gold and set with diamonds and pearls, it is engraved with the names of my family members—transforming it into an intimate object of devotion. The rosary extends the narrative of the look, where personal faith and exceptional craftsmanship meet.

'In the context of Fashion is Art, the look reflects how faith, like art, can be expressed through form, detail, and emotion.'

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, also known as the Met Gala, falls on the first Monday in May every year.

The theme of this year's event - widely considered the Super Bowl of celebrity red carpets - is 'Costume Art', while the dress code is 'Fashion Is Art.'

The dress code calls on the A-list attendees to explore how designers use the human body as a blank canvas.

Leading the charge is a powerhouse trio of co-chairs, with Beyonce, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams joining forces with Vogue's global editorial director Anna Wintour to oversee fashion's biggest night.

Should religion and personal faith play a bigger role in high fashion and major events like the Met Gala?

It's the first time tennis superstar Williams has co-chaired the gala. Kidman previously co-chaired the star-studded event in 2003 as well as 2005, and Beyonce was an honorary chair in 2013.

The New York City museum will pair historical and contemporary garments from the Costume Institute for the exhibition, which will be loosely divided into three categories, including the classical and the nude body, aging and pregnant bodies, and the anatomical body.

The exhibit - set to unveil the Met's sprawling new Conde M. Nast Galleries - has been made possible by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sanchez, who are the lead sponsors and honorary co-chairs.

'The title "Costume Art" refers to the history of the costume institute,' Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute's curator, said at a press conference.

Bolton, who selects the theme, said fashion has 'the status of art because of, and not in spite of, its relation to the body.'

French luxury fashion house Yves Saint Laurent is also sponsoring the exhibit.

The 2026 Met Gala will also have a host committee that includes committee co-chairs Anthony Vaccarello and Zoe Kravitz, along with members Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Angela Bassett, Gwendoline Christie, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor and more.

Costume Art will run from May 10, 2026 through January 10, 2027, following the Met Gala on May 4.

The Met Gala is a huge money-maker for the museum, and provides the Costume Institute with its main source of funding.

Rodriguez said the look fit the evening's theme by reflecting 'how faith, like art, can be expressed through form, detail, and emotion.'

The 2026 Met Gala marks a major moment because it's the first one since Wintour technically stepped back from one of her famed roles at Vogue.

In June 2025, Wintour announced she was stepping down as the editor-in-chief of American Vogue after 37 years.

The global director for Vogue and global chief content officer at Conde Nast hired Chloe Malle as the new head of editorial content at Vogue.

Wintour has famously been incredibly hands-on with the Met Gala over the years, and is credited with making it the splashy A-list affair it has become, beloved by celebrities like Rihanna, the Kardashians, Blake Lively, Zendaya and more.

Last year, many stars did not attend the Met Gala, and some people thought it was to avoid making a faux pas because of the theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which was centered around the political and aesthetic constructs of Black dandyism.
