Cristiano Ronaldo has shared a sweet bonding moment with his littlest love following a tragic loss.
The soccer star posted a rare pic of himself cuddling his and girlfriend Georgina Rodríguez's youngest daughter Bella Esmeralda, more than two years after the toddler's twin brother, Ángel, died shortly after birth.
In the photo, Bella sits on their dad's lap beside a table while holding a small toy that appears to be Stitch from Disney's Lilo & Stitch.
Ronaldo captioned the Dec. 17 Instagram photo, "Bom dia," which means "good morning” in his native Portuguese.
The 39-year-old—who also shares daughter Alana, 7, with Rodríguez and is additionally father to son Cristiano Jr., 14, and twins Mateo and Eva, 7—tends to keeps his personal life private and last gave a family update in July, when he posted a photo of himself with Rodriguez and their children on a boat. He captioned the Instagram post, "My life," with a red heart emoji.
While keeping Bella mostly out of the spotlight, Ronaldo and Rodríguez have discussed how they’ve been grieving as a family following the death of her twin Angel in April 2022.
"It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away," they wrote in a joint statement at the time. "It is the greatest pain that any parent can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness."
Days later, the captain of the Saudi Pro League football club Al Nassr offered fans a first look at baby Bella, sharing a pic with his partner all his kids. "Your support is very important and we all felt the love and respect that you have for our family," Ronaldo wrote on Instagram. "Now it’s time to be grateful for the life that we’ve just welcomed into this world."
Ronaldo went on to speak about his conflicting emotions in welcoming baby Bella while mourning the loss of her brother. "I never felt to be happy and sad in the same moment," he shared. "You don't know if you cry or you don't know if you smile."
Rodríguez has also gotten candid on her feelings about the loss of Ángel. "Life is hard," Georgina said in the 2023 Netflix documentary I Am Georgina. "Life goes on. I have reasons to move on and be strong."
The 30-year-old added, "My priority right now is my family and my children. I'm so happy and thankful."
Rodríguez last shared pics of Bella on social media in November—images from a family trip to London and a photo of the athlete and their youngest daughter lying on a bed. She captioned the latter Instagram post, "Papá."
