Crimson Desert is starting to feel like the gift that keeps on giving. Sure, the opening few hours are rougher than sandpaper and the amount of game-breaking bugs on launch would make an exterminator squeamish, but everything since then has been absolutely golden. Pearl Abyss has worked tirelessly since launch making quality of life improvements and squashing those pesky bugs and the results are evident. Crimson Desert is certainly one of the greatest RPGs of this generation, and it's only getting better.

A new developer update announced today, shows Pearl Abyss' dedication to the fans. They've already made one of the greatest open world maps of all time and built a game with countless in-depth mechanics, but they're not just about to rest of their laurels. As with previous updates, they cover a lot of ground and list plenty of improvements, but one item on the list sticks out like a shining beacon to fans. They intend to make some much-needed story improvements: a better narrative. We're totally here for it.

I can personally attest to sinking well over 200 hours in Crimson Desert, and I'm still not feeling any fatigue. This world is glorious fun to explore, and every new update seems to bring something new and exciting for fans like me. My only lasting gripe with the game is the story. The main quest storylines are an incoherent mess to put it lightly. So much so, that the fast-forward button during cut scenes is almost a must as some of the nonsense from chapter to chapter would leave you scratching your head.

Thankfully then, Pearl Abyss are planning to address this problem and add some much-needed story content to the game. Hopefully, the improvements they make will add some narrative clarity and perhaps pull the chapters together in a more cohesive way. Even if they can manage to add more stakes to Kliff's adventures, it might go a long way to pull us fans back into the narrative in a more meaningful way. Crimson Desert is sorely lacking in compelling writing and hopefully they can improve it somewhat.

Taken directly from Dev Update June 2, 2026:

Story Improvements

We have been carefully reviewing the story-related feedback you have shared with us. To further strengthen the narrative flow of Kliff’s journey and to make it more engaging, we are working to refine and improve the coherence of key scenes. We hope these improvements will offer something new even for those who have already experienced Pywel.

Crimson Desert Fire Attack

Story improvements aside, the content for Crimson Desert never stops flowing. We'll also see combat improvements with some brand-new combat content added in for good measure. We're also getting improvements to the re-blockade system and further improvements to support characters Damiane and Oongka, making them worthy alternatives once you've grown tired of Kliff's play style. Add to that cross-platform save options and Crimson Desert is rapidly becoming a must-play game for 2026.

Crimson Desert gets better with each and every update and with DLC still in the works, there's plenty of life left in the massive adventure. While the story will probably never compete with the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3, and its upcoming Songs of the Past expansion, any improvements are always welcome. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a baby wyvern to tame as a pet and plenty of dust raiders who are in need of a suplex or two. Grand Theft Auto 6 and all its official delays don't bother me, as there's never been a better time to be a Greymane.
