Creature Commandos Ending Twist And Batman Villain Debut Explained

Clayface Has Joined The DCU

Revealed to be an impostor, Rick and Eric discover the real Professor McPherson dead in her home, just as the fake McPherson they saw teaching (and acting very unprofessionally) returns home. This fake McPherson is revealed to be none other than Basil Karlo aka Clayface. Voiced by Alan Tudyk, Clayface is a classic Batman villain who was once an actor before a chemical accident gave him the ability to shapeshift, while his normal form is that of a giant clay monster. As such, Rick Flag deduces that Clayface was planted to give validity to Circe's vision.

Creature Commandos Cast & DC Character Guide

Creature Commandos will kick off James Gunn's new DC Universe with an animated TV series including some of the weirdest DC Comics characters.

While Clayface is ultimately defeated by Eric Frankenstein via electricity from a nearby outlet, it's doubtful that he was killed. After all, it was recently announced that a Clayface live-action movie is in development for the DCU. As such, it seems as though Creature Commandos is just the beginning for the classic Gotham villain, though it remains to be seen if Tudyk will also play Clayface in live-action as well. That said, DC Studios' James Gunn has certainly indicated a preference to have the same actors play their characters across mediums, so it's certainly possible.

Did Rick Flag Just Die At The End of Creature Commandos Episode 5?

Rick Flag Gets His Back Broken By Clayface in Creature Commandos Episode 5

At the end of Creature Commandos episode 5, Flag and Eric's brawl with Clayface ends with the Batman villain breaking Rick's back over his knee. Shown holding a fading Rick who tells Eric to tell The Bride the truth about the vision before she and Task Force M kill the princess, it's unclear from the episode alone if Rick had died or not. However, the greater DCU and its future suggests that Rick Flag Sr. will likely live to fight another day.

It's already been confirmed that Frank Grillo is set to appear in live-action as Rick Flag Sr. in both 2025's Superman and in Peacemaker Season 2. As such, it stands to reason that Creature Commandos is not where Flag's story ends. That being said, one can imagine that he's going to need some serious medical attention in the episodes of Creature Commandos that are still to come.

What Does The Future Hold For Task Force M?

At War With Pokolistan...

Over in Pokolistan, Rick Flag tipping off the Princess that Task Force M has come to kill her does not bode well for The Bride and her team. Caught in an ambush by Ilana's royal knights and soldiers, Task Force M is forced to scatter at the end of Creature Commandos episode 5. Likewise, Princess Ilana demands that they all be hunted down and killed as they've been lied to by their government. That said, her delivery of the line is quite suspicious, suggesting Circe's vision may be real after all.

"It's quite evident by the end of Creature Commandos episode 5 that Task Force M is going to be in a lot of trouble in the final two episodes of this first season that are still to come..."

That being said, both The Bride and Doctor Phosphorus still do some major damage at the end of the episode. This is particularly true of Phosphorus, who melts his way through an entire tank, his middle fingers burning through its two drivers while he stands unscathed. At any rate, it's quite evident by the end of Creature Commandos episode 5 that Task Force M is going to be in a lot of trouble in the final two episodes of this first season that are still to come.
