While much of the entertainment world’s eyes are on the film world this weekend, with the Venice and Telluride Film Festivals marking the beginning of the fall movie season, the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony ensures that TV isn’t forgotten. The two-night ceremony serves as a kickoff to next week’s Primetime Emmys, giving out many awards in the reality, variety, documentary, and guest actor categories.
The awards got underway on Saturday night at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, with Wanda Sykes serving as emcee. Major winners on Night 1 included “The Traitors,” which took home five categories including a third consecutive win for host Alan Cumming; “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” which brought home six awards for its final season; and “The Muppet Show,” which won four categories including Variety Special (Pre-Recorded). But perhaps the biggest winner of the night was Bad Bunny, which earned trophies for Variety Special (Live), Directing, Lighting Design, Music Direction, Sound Mixing, Choreography and Technical Direction. The Puerto Rican pop star also factored into another show’s night, as “Saturday Night Live” submitted his episode for the Makeup for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program category that it eventually won.
The 2026 Creative Arts Emmys will continue on Sunday, September 6. Winners from Night 1 can be found below.
