Courteney Cox's Snow Patrol rocker ex Johnny McDaid pays tribute to new girlfriend Rosie in a gushing speech - three months after their split was revealed

Courteney Cox's ex Johnny McDaid paid tribute to his new girlfriend Rosie as he accepted the BMI's President's Award on Tuesday. 

The Mail on Sunday revealed in June that the Snow Patrol rocker had quietly separated from the Friends actress after over a decade together. 

Johnny was said to have already moved on and was in the early stages of a new relationship. 

And it seems the new relationship has flourished as the singer, 50, said 'I love you' to his girlfriend in a gushing speech. 

Accepting the award for his incredible contribution to songwriting, he told the audience: ' There are of course many people I have to thank.  

'My family that are here, Anya, Josh, Sheila and my partner Rosie, thank you for all your support and I love you.'

Courteney and Johnny, who had been together for more than a decade and were briefly engaged, are understood to have gone their separate ways late last year.

The split is said to be entirely amicable, and friends of the couple told The Mail on Sunday that they had simply reached a point where they were living 'different lives'.

Actress Cox, 62, best known to millions for her iconic role as Monica Geller in 90s sitcom Friends, is based in Los Angeles, while Northern Ireland-born Johnny, has been mostly based in London, although the couple had tended to split their time between the US and the UK.

Confirming their separation, a friend said: 'Johnny speaks incredibly highly of Courteney. They had a very deep relationship and they remain extremely amicable. They are great friends and care about each other very much.

'This was not an ugly split. They had simply reached a point where they were living different lives.'

The pair began dating in 2013 after being introduced through mutual friends, including Ed Sheeran, and announced their engagement the following year. 

Johnny is one of Ed's long-time friends and collaborators, and co-wrote some of his biggest hits, including Shape Of You, Photograph, Galway Girl, Bad Habits and Shivers.

Courteney and Johnny had previously split in 2015 before reconciling just months later, and the Friends star went on to reflect on the cause of their relationship troubles.

The actress admitted in 2016 she became 'co-dependent' on Johnny, and said she didn't know how to 'regard love' in the same way that he did.

She said: 'We were engaged for over a year and then we broke up.

'He's from Ireland. And the way he regards love is precious. We have to treat it in a different way. It's more special — you coddle it.'

Speaking on Running Wild with Bear Grylls, Courteney added: 'I definitely made a lot of mistakes that I see — whether it's codependency or people-pleasing. I didn't know how to bring it in. It was always external.'

Cox has said in interviews that she was 'thankful' for the breakup because it made their relationship even better. McDaid has also spoken of how 'lucky' he felt to be in a relationship with the actress.

The couple were seen last August 2025 on a double-date in Malibu, California, with Courteney's Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston and her rumoured boyfriend, wellness expert Jim Curtis.

They were last photographed together at the US Open in September 2025.
