A video from 2003 that appears to show Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs inviting then 12-year-old actress Daveigh Chase to an ‘afterparty’ has resurfaced online following news of her death at the age of 35.
Chase, best known for The Ring and Lilo & Stitch, died on Tuesday after reportedly battling meningitis that developed into septic complications. She had also recently been hospitalized amid reports of malnutrition.
Following her death, a one-minute clip from the 2003 MTV Movie Awards has begun circulating again on social media.
At the time, Chase - then 12 - had gained recognition for her role as Samara Morgan in The Ring. She was presented with the Best Villain award by Combs, then 33, alongside Ashton Kutcher, then 25.
In backstage footage from the event, Combs is seen speaking with Chase and asking whether she is ‘coming to the after-party tonight’ while holding a drink.
Chase nods in response, after which Combs reacts with laughter and an audible ‘Yeah!’

The clip has resurfaced alongside renewed online discussion about both Chase’s life and Combs' current legal situation.
Combs was previously found guilty of two counts of transportation for prostitution in violation of the federal Mann Act.
In October 2025, he was sentenced to four years and two months in federal prison, along with five years of supervised release and a $500,000 fine.
During the trial, prosecutors presented testimony relating to Combs’ conduct with his ex-girlfriend Casandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura and another witness referred to as ‘Jane’.
Evidence presented in court included allegations involving drugs, coercion, and so-called ‘freak-off’ encounters with escorts while Combs allegedly watched and recorded.
He is currently serving his sentence at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in New Jersey.
Following the resurfacing of the clip, social media users have re-examined the footage, with reactions circulating online.

One person wrote, ‘No one that young is prepared to handle what she experienced. It’s heartbreaking.’ A
Another added, ‘Poor girl. Diddy was creepy back then as he is now.’
Other commenters shared similar reactions, with one writing, ‘When I look at the clip as an adult it’s more disturbing and sick.’
A representative for Combs previously addressed the resurfaced footage in a statement to Page Six in 2024, denying wrongdoing and describing the exchange as misinterpreted.
‘It’s disappointing to see the media and social media commentators twist moments into something they were not,’ the statement said.
The team maintained the interaction was part of a scripted onstage segment and not inappropriate in nature.
Chase never publicly commented on the clip.
It has not been confirmed whether Chase attended the after-party in 2003 or any other events hosted by Diddy.

Prior to her death at 35, Chase had reportedly been out of contact for an extended period, prompting concern from her manager John Ryan and her stepsister Gaia Brown, who had been attempting to locate her for several years.
Speaking to the California Post, Ryan said their search eventually led them to the Skid Row area of downtown Los Angeles, where he believed Chase may have been staying.
He added that he had previously managed to speak with her by phone and arranged to meet her in person.
Ryan said the initial plan had been to support Chase in regaining her health, with arrangements being explored for possible rehabilitation support in Costa Rica once she was well enough to travel.
However, he said the situation changed by the time they arrived, claiming she could not be located.
‘We were so close to finding her,’ he said. ‘Daveigh was the sweetest and brightest light in Hollywood. I can’t believe this is real. Her legacy and work will live on forever.’
Chase rose to fame as a child actor in 2002 with her role as Samara Morgan in The Ring.
She later appeared in a number of film and television projects including Lilo & Stitch, Donnie Darko, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, ER, and Big Love.
She gradually stepped back from the public eye after 2013, with her final social media activity in 2017 and her last red carpet appearance at a Vogue dinner in April 2013.
Over the following years, she had several reported run-ins with the law, including an arrest in 2017 in Los Angeles in connection with joyriding in a stolen vehicle.
