Remedy Entertainment shared another look at Control Resonant on Tuesday, as part of the Sony's State of Play showcase. The game will launch on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on August 27. The latest trailer features protagonist Dylan Faden getting a rude awakening in the Federal Bureau of Control, in a plexiglass prison cell.

This guy isn't Magneto... or maybe he kind of is? We get the basic setup of the plot here — the same terrifying abilities that make Dylan worth locking up also make him the only person capable of meeting the threat posed by the mysterious new resonance that's emerged in Manhattan. Check it out below:

"You're not FBC, you're not even fucking human," an FBC agent tells Dylan during a rainstorm. That's kind of rude to say to the guy you've asked to save everyone's lives, but you know how bureaucrats can be.

Control Resonant stars actor Sean Durrie as Dylan, who the game's official site describes as follows:

After years in confinement at the hands of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), Dylan Faden’s former captors are deploying him at the peak of a supernatural crisis. Charged with combating a mysterious cosmic entity as it alters fundamental aspects of our reality, Dylan must harness his new-found powers to take the fight to the myriad threats overwhelming Manhattan. On the path to unlocking the full potential of his supernatural abilities, Dylan will also seek out his sister, FBC Director Jesse Faden, as he bids to comprehend and contain the dangers that have spilled beyond the confines of the Oldest House to tear our world apart.

At a preview event back in March, Remedy's Mikael Kasurinen, creative director for Control Resonant, explained that while the first Control was about being isolated within the Oldest House, the sequel will "turn things upside down" by letting players loose in this distorted and trippy version of Manhattan. In gameplay terms, that means that enemies can alter reality, but Dylan can bend gravity to his will to catch enemies at a disadvantage.

Remedy is taking a very different approach to Control Resonant than its 2019 predecessor. Both games share a brutalist aesthetic, surreal vibes, offbeat humor, and an affinity for dramatic, high-contrast lighting. However, Control Resonant leans more toward the action RPG genre, with deep progression and customization that allow players to build a unique playstyle around a variety of special abilities and Dylan's shapeshifting weapon, known as the Aberrant.

Control Resonant launches August 27 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
