Haunted Chocolatier Mountain Forest Lookout

The solo developer of Stardew Valley, Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, has given a brief update on the progress of his upcoming title Haunted Chocolatier. While this update was brought to the surface earlier this month, with the hype behind Stardew's recent milestones, fans took to the comments of the update post to discuss their thoughts on the pause in development.

ConcernedApe has been in the process of creating Haunted Chocolatier for quite some time now, and though the update was not as positive as some may have hoped, fans are still so proud of Barone. The dedication this solo developer has is almost unmatched, as he has even worked through the holidays to give fans patches and fixes for Stardew Valley.

Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone Is Still Making His New Game

Haunted Chocolatier Is Still Coming, But "When?" Is The Biggest Question

In the update, ConcernedApe discusses that he has not been able to work on his new title, Haunted Chocolatier, in quite some time. This was due to the 1.6 update in Stardew Valley being so massive and taking up a large chunk of his time. Even so, Barone states,

However, I also have a strong desire to make more games. I like making games, and I have a lot more that I want to share, with Haunted Chocolatier and beyond. And even though Haunted Chocolatier has only been revealed publicly to a tiny degree, in my own private world it’s a special place, and I’m very attached to the characters, themes, and ideas.

While Stardew might have taken up a lot of his time, he has not given up hope on bringing the new title to the masses. Barone mentions that his next task will be to "tweak the existing bones until he is happy with them" while adding the rest of the bones to get things back moving in the right direction. Just as he did with Stardew Valley, ConcernedApe is coding everything from scratch and "working solo in all areas", which is a monumental task in itself.

Our Take: Stardew Valley Is Just Too Good

The Success Of The Title Has To Be Very Time-Consuming

The comments on the update post are extremely wholesome and endearing to read. Almost every single comment mentions how Barone is doing a phenomenal job, as well as how fans are willing to wait as long as needed for the game to feel complete in the developer's eyes. Stardew Valley is such a major success that it has to be hard to perform a balancing act and juggle two full-time solo development jobs at once.
