Two-time Oscar nominee Colman Domingo has been selected to receive the honorary President’s Award later this month at the 57th NAACP Image Awards.

The honor, given in recognition of special achievement and distinguished public service, comes two years after Domingo scored double wins at the Image Awards, taking home trophies for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture (for Rustin) and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture (for The Color Purple).

He has two more Image Awards nominations this year, for Supporting Actor and Directing on the Netflix series The Four Seasons, which returns for Season 2 later this year.

The NAACP Image Awards ceremony is February 28 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, airing live on BET and CBS. As previously announced, Viola Davis will be honored with the Chairman’s Award during the broadcast.

“We are honored to recognize Colman Domingo with the President’s Award for the breadth and depth of his leadership, artistry, and cultural impact. Across film, television, and theater, Colman has consistently chosen work that challenges narratives, expands representation, and centers humanity with dignity and grace,” NAACP president and CEO Derrick Johnson said Tuesday. “He is not only exemplary at his craft, but intentional in how he uses his platform to uplift stories that might otherwise go unheard. As an artist he leads with integrity, fearlessness, and a deep commitment to community, making him a model for what it means to build a legacy that extends far beyond the stage or screen.”

Previous President’s Award recipients include Dave Chappelle, Usher, Gabrielle Union-Wade, Dwyane Wade, Rihanna, LeBron James, Kerry Washington, Spike Lee, Muhammad Ali, Jesse Jackson, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and Lauryn Hill.

Domingo won an Emmy for his role on HBO’s Euphoria. He is next up playing patriarch Joe Jackson in Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic Michael, in addition to Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day and Jaume Collet-Serra’s An Innocent Girl.
