Notre Dame last won a national championship in 1988. Penn State hasn't been crowned champion of college football since 1986. These blue blood programs are two wins away from a title and meet tonight in the Orange Bowl for the first semifinal of the College Football Playoff.

Neither team has really been tested so far in the playoff. No. 6 Penn State won blowouts against No. 11 SMU and No. 3 Boise State, and No. 7 Notre Dame cruised by No. 10 Indiana and No. 2 Georgia. The winner tonight will meet the winner of tomorrow's game between No. 8 Ohio State and No. 5 Texas in the Cotton Bowl.

Notre Dame and Penn State kick off the CFP semifinals in the Orange Bowl in Miami tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 PT) on ESPN.
