Coldplay's first show of their Australian stadium tour was derailed on Wednesday night after one band member suffered a health emergency.
In a career first, lead singer Chris Martin announced the band would be playing their first show in Melbourne's Marvel Stadium without bassist Guy Berryman after he was struck down by an illness.
During the concert, Chris, 47, said: 'We will have a slightly different show and we'll do our best to make it amazing because we are in Melbourne with all you beautiful people.'
'If you see some mistakes and problems, it's because we don't have our bass player. You won't see Guy tonight because he is vomiting,' the singer added.
Taking to Instagram after the show on Wednesday night, the band thanked their fans for understanding.
'Tonight was the first time in our band's history that we've played a show without all four members onstage. Guy was taken ill unexpectedly just before the show. Thank you for carrying us through it.'
Whether Berryman will return to the stage for tonight's sold-out Melbourne show remains uncertain.
Coldplay's four-night stint at Marvel Stadium continues with shows on Saturday and Sunday before the band moves on to Sydney for another four sold-out performances at Accor Stadium next week.

It comes after Australian musician Gordi brought Coldplay frontman Chris to tears on Monday during an event at Bakehouse Studios in Melbourne.
The singer-songwriter, 31, whose real name is Sophie Payten, said the pop-rock star cried after he heard her new single Lunch at Dune.
Gordi took to Instagram the morning after the event to detail the shocking moment, revealing the Fix You hitmaker 'said songs like that deserve to be heard'.
'I started playing the song, and this moment in the second verse, I'm like, "What the actual f**k is going on? I'm with Chris Martin, pull yourself together",' Gordi said.
'I close my eyes, I lean into the emotion of the song. Next thing I know, the song's over, I open my eyes, look up at Chris Martin, and he's crying, tears coming out of his eyes.'

'He said really nice things about the song. He told me it was beautiful, he said songs like that deserve to be heard.'
'It was just the most insane, beautiful moment of my life. And I can't believe that no one got it on camera.'
The artist, who also works as a doctor, was invited to a secret gathering with several local artists to meet Chris this week.
Pop singer-songwriter Kian and indie rockers Radio Free Alice were among those invited, with Gordi receiving a special call-out from Chris.
'Apparently when Chris Martin goes to other countries, he likes to meet local artists. Truly an amazing man; who could be arsed doing that when they're on tour,' Gordi revealed.
She went on to say Chris asked the musicians he invited if 'there's an artist in the room named Gordi', prompting her to put her hand up.
'He said, "I've listened to your music. It's really beautiful." I said, "Thank you Chris Martin",' Gordi detailed.
