Microdrama apps are everywhere right now, and now they’re coming out of boxes.
Chinese giant COL Group and Nasdaq-listed BeLive Holdings have teamed to launch what they’re calling the world’s first fully-integrated ‘Microdrama in a Box’ solution.
At the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FilMart), they’ve opened the box on a turnkey app solution that offers “enterprise-grade SaaS infrastructure with access to the largest curated microdrama catalogue globally.” In effect, that means companies can buy a microdrama app off the shelf with content to offer on day one.
Hong Kong-based BeLive’s Yeon Studios will provide its microdrama delivery platform and COL will provide a pipeline of microdrama IP, with buyers able to launch their app within 30 days of their purchase.
They also gain access to a microdrama ecosystem, including a vertical episodic playback engine optimised for series-based consumption, built-in gamification and reward systems to drive retention, advertising and hybrid subscription monetisation frameworks, multi-language AI subtitling, and optional commerce integration.
The rationale for the offering is that while microdramas infrastructure in China and the U.S. is well established, demand in other territories is not being matching operationally. The partners say infrastructure, content depth and operational playbooks to launch credible platforms are lacking.
“This is a powerful combination of technology and content at exactly the right time,” said Timothy Oh, General Manager of COL Group International, the microdrama arm of COL Group. “Microdrama has already proven its engagement and monetisation strength in the U.S. and China. By packaging enterprise-grade SaaS with the world’s largest microdrama catalogue as one integrated solution, we’re removing operational complexity for our partners. They can focus on brand positioning and go-to-market execution, while we handle the content curation, platform optimisation and infrastructure behind the scenes.”
COL is a microdrama pioneer that has become increasingly international in its outlook. Last week, it struck a string of deals, which were unveiled at MIP London, and appointed distributors for its content in Europe and Latin America.
Latif Sim, Executive Director of BeLive Holdings, added the collaboration signals a broader ambition to accelerate a new ‘story economy.’
“This partnership with COL Group is more than about launching a product. It’s about launching a new model for the story economy. Together, we are turning microdrama from platform-dependent content into owned, scalable infrastructure.”
