A Coinbase product manager says the self-custody wallet is next in line for agent features, building on infrastructure the company has been rolling out for two years

Coinbase Wallet plans to add AI agent capabilities this year, according to Oxxbid, a Coinbase product manager focused on trading.

The specifics of the wallet rollout have not been spelled out.

What Coinbase has already built

The wallet plan does not start from zero. Coinbase has stacked up a series of agent-focused products, and the Wallet looks set to inherit much of that groundwork.

The biggest piece arrived on February 11, 2026, when Coinbase launched Agentic Wallets. These give AI agents the ability to handle on-chain activity by themselves. That includes spending, trading tokens and generating yield.

That spending limit is the key design choice. Agentic Wallets let users define how much an agent can spend. On-chain trades and transactions also lean on user-approved actions.

Underneath the wallets sits x402, a payments protocol built for machine-to-machine transactions. By early November 2026, it had processed over 50 million transactions.

Coinbase for Agents and the plain-language trade

The second pillar is Coinbase for Agents, a tool that has been operational since mid-2026. It lets users give trading instructions in plain language. An agent then carries them out within limits the user has set.

Coinbase widened that tool’s reach around November 2-3, 2026. It added integrations with Hermes and third-party platforms, including bankrbot.

The Wallet itself has also been picking up features. In September 2026, Coinbase added prediction markets to Coinbase Wallet, powered by Polymarket.

A longer road than it looks

Coinbase’s agent push traces back to AgentKit, a developer toolkit the company introduced in 2024. The 2026 products took that concept and made it usable for regular customers, with safety rails attached.

What this means

For users, the pitch is convenience with guardrails. That is why Coinbase’s emphasis on spending caps and user-approved actions matters more than any flashy feature list.

The near-term thing to watch is execution. Coinbase has said what it plans for the Wallet but not exactly what will ship or when. The questions that matter are which agent features land first, and how tightly they connect to existing tools like Agentic Wallets and Coinbase for Agents.
