Daniel, Johnny and Chozen's partnership is on rocky ground heading into Cobra Kai season 6 part 2. Part 1 of the Netflix Karate Kid show saw Ralph Macchio and William Zabka's protagonists combining their Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang teams to choose the best fighters for the Sekai Taikai. Though their different teaching styles initially created tension, things became worse by the end of the first part of the season, as Daniel became distracted by a box of secrets about Mr. Miyagi's past, Johnny is trying to save some money to get him and Carmen a home before she gives birth to their child, and Chozen considers returning to Okinawa.

Cobra Kai season 6 part 2 will see the trio working to raise their team's spirits after the part 1 finale saw Tory leave and rejoin the titular dojo under Kreese's leadership after her mother's death left her disillusioned. Daniel, meanwhile, continues looking for answers to the box of Miyagi's secrets, including the bloody Sekai Taikai headband, going on another emotional downward spiral. Johnny, on the other hand, must once again confront his former mentor and try to finally put the demons of his past behind him.

Alongside Daniel's Ralph Macchio, Johnny's William Zabka and Chozen's Yuji Okumoto, the ensemble Cobra Kai season 6 part 2 cast sees the returns of Xolo Maridueña as Miguel, Tanner Buchanan as Robby, Mary Mouser as Sam, Jacob Bertrand as Hawk, Peyton List as Tory, Dallas Dupree Young as Kenny, Vanessa Rubio as Carmen, Martin Kove as Kreese, Gianni DeCenzo as Demetri and Alicia Hannah-Kim as Kim Da-Eun. Further expanding the world of the Miyagiverse with both its legacy and young new characters, the show is building towards an action-packed close.

Ahead of the show's return, Screen Rant interviewed Ralph Macchio, William Zabka and Yuji Okumoto to discuss Cobra Kai season 6 part 2, how Daniel and Johnny's rocky relationship is going to impact the Miyagi-Do students in the Sekai Taikai, Chozen's uncertainty of what to do with his future, and how Karate Kid: Legends will carry on a certain objective for Macchio from every prior installment.

Daniel & Johnny Have "Some Big Hurdles" Ahead For The Sekai Taikai

"There's a lot to unpack..."

Screen Rant: Excited to chat with you guys for Cobra Kai season 6 part 2. So, Ralph and William, I'll start with you guys. At the end of part 1, we see that you have a very tenuous relationship heading into the Sekai Taikai, but now we also see that Kreese is back and is leading his own team. What can we expect from Daniel and Johnny's relationship heading into part 2, especially since Daniel is still kind of conflicting with what he's learned about Miyagi?

Ralph Macchio: I mean, they've set some big hurdles for them. There's some certainly growth with Johnny and Daniel, where they have this falling out at the end of 605, but they're holding it together for the kids. That is sort of an informed step forward for them, putting themselves aside for the greater good. There's

William Zabka: They're still roommates in a hotel. That says a lot for how far these characters have come. [Chuckles]

Ralph Macchio: Yeah [chuckles], but they have to unpack a lot to figure out. Kreese and Tory is a gut punch to everyone. There's a lot to unpack and figure out. Part 2 has got high highs, and low lows, and certainly for Daniel, he winds up spiraling, chasing answers to who Miyagi might have been. The deeper he looks, the more trouble and in actual peril he becomes, and takes his eye off the prize. And then, we have some epic martial arts, next level stuff, that our young cast does in the Sekai Taikai, and the competition level is greater than ever. Truly an epic conclusion in Part Two that should knock your socks off. So I'm excited.

William Zabka: Yeah, and Kreese is the big bad. It's a chance for Miyagi-do to defeat Kreese once and for all on the world stage. Personally, for Johnny to best Kreese, finally, all his chips are on the kids, and it means everything to him, because he doesn't want the kids to experience what he experienced after his defeat in '84, and go down that rabbit hole.

Chozen Has "A Lot Of Unfinished Business" On His Mind In Part 2

Okumoto Does, Though, Assure That He Will Be Focused On The Tournament

Chozen preparing to fight in Karate Kid

Yuji, I'd like to turn to you next. We saw in part 1, Chozen was really starting to reflect on his time with Kumiko, and possibly fly out to her to try and work things out. What can we expect from his mindset on that front, as well as just in general for the Sekai Taikai, heading into part 2?

Yuji Okumoto: Yeah, there's a lot of unfinished business that he has in Okinawa. I think he's still in search of finding happiness, and I think when we see what happens to him on his journey, he realizes now that the focus needs to be on the present, which is training the kids. I think once he gets to that realization, he focuses all his energy on making sure the kids are ready and prepped for this big world tournament. So, I think that's where his focus starts to go, in that direction.

"...I think [it] will pay off in dividends."

Ralph Macchio looking concerned as Daniel LaRusso in Cobra Kai

So Ralph, I did actually want to turn back to you and talk briefly about the Karate Kid movie, because I'm really excited that this franchise is continuing beyond the show. What can you tell me about why LaRusso is going out, reportedly, to the East Coast, and how he sort of interacts with both Mr. Han and this new Karate Kid?

Ralph Macchio: Well, I can't go into detail on it at this point, but one of the things of the choices I've made from back in 1983 was always to kind of play the truth of Daniel LaRusso, and the honesty, even with all his flaws. He's a goodhearted kid back in the day that was overcoming obstacles, and had this wonderful mentor in Mr. Miyagi that has become so much a part of his life. And through Cobra Kai, continuing to play that truth, and even in the storyline in Cobra Kai of unearthing who Miyagi might have been, and coming to grips with when we get to part 3 of how it resolves, and playing that in all honesty.

So, in the movie, it's the same throughline for me. It's wanting to pay it forward, wanting to honor the legacy, wanting to do all the things that Miyagi-do and that his life, to this point, has brought him, and that is to try to help anyone find their balance and move forward. So, therein lies some of the truth that I bring into that chapter of the franchise. It's the best I could do without giving you story points, because I'd be in trouble at this point right now, when launching part 2 of Cobra Kai. But it's about playing truth, and that's important to me, and I think will pay off in dividends.
