CNBC announced a restructuring of its newsroom on Thursday, with layoffs that are said to impact less than 12 editorial staffers.
“The changes made today are to align CNBC’s newsroom structure for the future, they are not driven by cost cutting,” a CNBC spokesperson said. “We expect to hire more than 40 new editorial roles over the next year across TV, Digital and direct-to-consumer platforms.”
The changes are being made under David Cho, who was hired as editor in chief last year.
Reuters, which first reported on the restructuring, also reported that among those leaving are the website’s managing editor, Jeff McCracken.
CNBC was among the cable networks that were spun off by Comcast into a new entity, Versant. Versant started trading on NASDAQ in early January.
