First released way back in 1995, Chrono Trigger launched on the SNES and marked the first installment in what would become a hit franchise. Developed by Square, the story follows a group of adventurers who must travel through time itself to put the end to global tragedies.

Since its launch, it has gone on to be considered one of the greatest video games of all time, and has received multiple re-releases, albeit under different titles. Back in 1999, Chrono Trigger received its first PlayStation port just weeks before the launch of its sequel, Chrono Cross. Then, the port for the sequel arrived in 2001. Since then, Chrono Trigger has been re-released on PC, Nintendo DS, mobile, and even the Nintendo Wii, showing that fans are still eager to get stuck into the stunning RPG over three decades on from its original launch.

Now, to celebrate its 31st anniversary, Chrono Trigger is back with an exciting release which was unveiled earlier this year courtesy of Square Enix. The only catch is, at least for now, this official merchandise will only be available in Japan.

However, if you are from Japan or you are set to visit soon, you will be pleased to learn that Chrono Trigger keychains will now be available from 27 March onwards in gacha machines found all across the country. Costing 500JPY for each spin, there will be 15 different variants to potentially win, including one mystery design. The character keychains up for grabs are Ayla, Crono, Frog, Lucca, Marle, Magus, and Robo, with each character receiving two unique designs: idle and attacking.

The One Mark Collection of Chrono Trigger keychains by Square Enix are the perfect way to pay tribute to some of the most iconic gaming characters of all time, as well as proving just how loved the Chrono Trigger saga is 31 years from release. However, as mentioned, there has been no word of these keychains being made available internationally, neither is there a way to purchase them outside of gacha machines. As such, you will have to make your way to Japan, and test your luck if you wish to get your hands on the collection.

With rumors that a third Chrono Trigger installment was in the works back in the early 2000s, reportedly titled Chrono Break, it never came to fruition. As such, the beloved saga remains firmly stuck in the past, but, as you can tell, it still remains in the hearts of its fans. Who knows? Hopefully, Square Enix will surprise us all one day with a third game in the hit RPG series.
