Chris Pine has set his Netflix return after eight years.
Pine, who is best known for headlining the recent Star Trek movie trilogy as Captain Kirk, previously worked with the streamer on Outlaw King (2018). Since then, Pine has starred in Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), The Contractor (2022), Don't Worry Darling (2022), and Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023).
Now, Deadline reports that Pine will star in a new Netflix survival thriller called Yeti, which pits a father (Pine) and daughter (Iona Bell) against a bloodthirsty monster in the Alps. Sofia Boutella, who is known for starring in Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon and who worked with Pine on Star Trek Beyond (2016), will costar, along with Ray Winstone. The logline for the project is included below:
Yeti takes place deep in the Alps, where an avalanche has unleashed something primeval from the glacial ice. With no hope of rescue, a father and his daughter must fight to survive against a merciless predator that blends in with the snow.
Michael Chaves, director of The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025), will helm Yeti, which began as a spec script by Peter Gaffney, with Sean Tretta then handling rewrites. Pine will executive produce the film alongside Hans Ritter, with Dan Kagan, as well as Picturestart's Erik Feig and Jessica Switch, producing.
Yeti marks the latest joint project between Sony and Netflix. The two companies established a partnership in 2021 that gives Netflix a first-look at any films Sony Pictures plans to make for a direct-to-streaming release.
For Pine, the Yeti announcement follows the Sundance premiere of Carousel, in which he stars opposite Jenny Slate. Directed by Rachel Lambert, the romantic comedy debuted to generally positive reviews and sports a 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. Pine is also set to appear in a sci-fi comedy called Alpha Gang, which is currently in post-production.
Bell, who plays Pine's daughter in Yeti, stars in Fing!, another Sundance premiere from earlier this year. The British actor is also set to star in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which hits theaters this November.
Audiences will know Ray Winstone from The Departed (2006), as well as the Netflix smash hit Damsel (2024) and 2021's Black Widow. Chaves, meanwhile, is a veteran of the Conjuring franchise, having directed The Nun II (2023) and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021).
No release date or filming timeline has been announced just yet, but more about Yeti could be revealed in the coming months. After Outlaw King and an array of big and smaller projects, Pine's involvement evidently makes this survival monster movie one to keep an eye on.
