Chris is a Senior News Writer for Collider. He can be found in an IMAX screen, with his eyes watering and his ears bleeding for his own pleasure. He joined the news team in 2022 and accidentally fell upwards into a senior position despite his best efforts.

For reasons unknown, he enjoys analyzing box office receipts, giant sharks, and has become known as the go-to man for all things Bosch, Mission: Impossible and Christopher Nolan in Collider's news division. Recently, he found himself yeehawing along to the Dutton saga on the Yellowstone Ranch.

He is proficient in sarcasm, wit, Photoshop and working unfeasibly long hours. Amongst his passions sit the likes of the history of the Walt Disney Company, the construction of theme parks, steam trains and binge-watching Gilmore Girls with a coffee that is just hot enough to scald him.

His obsession with the Apple TV+ series Silo is the subject of mockery within the Senior News channel, where his feelings about Taylor Sheridan's work are enough to make his fellow writers roll their eyes.

Chris Hemsworth has spent the better part of the last decade wielding immortal God hammers and punching mercenaries in the face. But while his days as the God of Thunder are far from over, it's his other major action franchise that's been keeping him busy recently and it looks like the latest mission is close to completion.

Hemsworth has officially confirmed the end of production on Extraction 3 via social media, as he posted a host of images from his time in Thailand. The photographs were taken by Evan Paterakis, with Thailand serving as the final location for the sequel's extensive international shoot. Principal photography began in July 2026, with production taking place across Sydney, Wollongong, and several European locations before moving to Thailand.

The new movie will once again see Hemsworth return as Tyler Rake, the former Australian special forces soldier turned black-market mercenary who has somehow survived two movies that really didn't seem particularly interested in keeping him alive. Sam Hargrave returns to direct the third installment, with Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame) and David Weil (Citadel) writing the screenplay. The franchise is based on the graphic novel Ciudad, with cinematographer Fraser Taggart also returning for the latest installment.

Once again, Hemsworth will be joined by Golshifteh Farahani (Paterson) and Idris Elba (Luther), and there are a number of big names dropping in for this third installment, including Don Lee (Eternals), Joe Taslim (The Raid), Chi Lewis-Parry (Gladiator II), Siena Agudong (Resident Evil), and Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye). Development on the third film began in April 2024, with Hemsworth making it clear that he'd only be doing another if they found a story that justified returning to the franchise rather than simply producing another sequel for the sake of it.

The first two films helped establish Extraction as one of Netflix's signature action franchises, particularly thanks to Hargrave's elaborate action choreography and extended, seemingly uninterrupted fight sequences. The first two Extraction movies have been enormous successes for Netflix, collectively accumulating more than 545 million hours watched and 270 million views during their respective first 91 days on the platform.

Netflix has not yet announced an official release date for Extraction 3, although the movie could arrive sometime in 2027. Both previous Extraction films are streaming now on Netflix.
