As of March 6, Snow White and the Huntsman is the no. 6 movie in the world on Disney+, per FlixPatrol. However, the dark fantasy adventure is not available on Disney's streaming service in the U.S., where audiences can access it via VOD platforms such as Prime Video. Predator: Badlands is still at the top of the streaming charts for Disney+, but Snow White's popularity has been holding steady this week.
Snow White and the Huntsman started ranking in several countries' top 10 on March 3 and is now seeing the highest viewership in Austria, France, Germany, Liechtenstein, and Monaco. With a 48% Tomatometer, 52% Popcornmeter, and 2.6/5 on Letterboxd, most people seem in agreement that this is not a good movie, but its attempt at gritty fantasy and star-studded cast have drawn in audiences, nonetheless.
In addition to Hemsworth as "The Huntsman" and Theron as Ravenna, the Evil Queen, Snow White and the Huntsman stars Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Sam Claflin as William, the would-be Prince Charming character. Sam Spruell, Ian McShane, Ray Winstone, Nick Frost, and Toby Jones also feature. The movie even spawned a sequel, which added Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain to the lineup.
Snow White and the Huntsman grossed nearly $400 million against a budget of $170 million, while The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016) grossed only $165 million worldwide against a $115 million budget, resulting in a major flop and putting an end to the franchise. Today, Snow White and the Huntsman is also relevant to Disney's Snow White flop from 2025.
Disney finally added Snow White to its list of live-action remakes last year, but due to controversies surrounding the cast and it just being a bad movie (39% on Rotten Tomatoes, to compare), it was a spectacular box office bomb. The movie theater industry is very different now than it was in 2012, but despite Snow White and the Huntsman's failings, there is something to be said for its riskier aesthetic.
Mirror Mirror also endeavored to deliver a Snow White story with a very different visual style from Disney in 2012. Snow White and the Huntsman is a particular film that places the story in a somber world and also attempts to make Snow White a heroic revolutionary. The action, cast, and visuals can still be enjoyable, despite a choppy story.
