Chicago PD Season 12 Sets Up A Massive Voight Change That Can Alter Intelligence's Future

2 days ago 2

NBC's first sneak peek at Chicago PD season 12 teases an exciting new storyline for Hank Voight, which will alter his life, of course, but it will also likely affect the Intelligence Unit. Following Hailey Upton's exit during the Chicago PD season 11 finale, many changes await Intelligence. Upton's replacement (Toya Turner's Kiana Cook) will arrive at the 21st District, and the others must learn how to adapt without Tracy Spiridakos' character and learn how to work with Cook, a patrol officer. Meanwhile, Voight's personal life is also expected to change course (based on the season 12 teaser trailer).

Chicago PD season 12, consisting of 22 episodes, premieres on Wednesday, September 25, at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.

Unfortunately, not much is known about Chicago PD season 12's plot. Yes, Upton is out and Cook is in at the 21st District, but other than casting changes, most of the characters' story arcs in the upcoming episodes are a mystery. NBC's brief trailer for Chicago PD season 12, Chicago Fire season 13, and Chicago Med season 10 gives fans a glimpse of what they can expect. Although the teaser is just that, a teaser, one of the scenes in the video suggests that one character's return will significantly impact Voight's arc in Chicago PD season 12.

Hank Voight May Finally Have A Love Interest In Chicago PD Season 12

Nina Chapman Returns In Season 12

One Chicago's Instagram posted a 30-second teaser trailer previewing Chicago PD season 12, Chicago Fire season 13, and Chicago Med season 10, and the video revealed that Assistant State Attorney Nina Chapman, played by Sara Bues, is returning in the police procedural series. Chapman made her debut during the season 9 finale, where she and Voight didn't exactly get off to a good start. Nevertheless, Voight and Chapman's relationship grew over time, and it seems as if they will continue to get closer in season 12, suggesting that a romance between the two characters is a very real possibility.

The trailer for the One Chicago TV shows begins with Chapman asking Voight, "How long are you going to burn through cases running?" He responds, "I'm police. I'm doing my job." Later, Chapman can be heard saying, "You almost died in the basement," with Voight retorting, "But I didn't. I'm still here." Throughout the entire teaser, Voight and Chapman are the only Chicago PD representatives. So, it's safe to assume that Chapman plays a big part in Voight's storyline in season 12. The focus on the two characters also suggests that Voight has a major arc coming up.

Given their growing connection and chemistry, it's only a matter of time before Chicago PD officially makes Chapman a love interest for Voight, and the teaser makes it seem as if a romance between the two will happen sooner rather than later.

Voight and Chapman have built a strong working relationship, but as time goes on, their connection has gotten more personal. Chapman is obviously worried about Voight in the trailer, and she was quite concerned when he was kidnapped during the Chicago PD season 11 finale. Given their growing connection and chemistry, it's only a matter of time before Chicago PD officially makes Chapman a love interest for Voight, and the teaser makes it seem as if a romance between the two will happen sooner rather than later.

What A Voight Romance Means For Intelligence Moving Forward

Voight Has Never Had A Serious Love Interest In Chicago PD

Given that neither Voight nor the Intelligence Unit has had to deal with Voight's dating life, it will be interesting to see how everyone reacts if and when he and Chapman grow closer in Chicago PD season 12. It also doesn't help that Chapman is an Assistant State Attorney. Anyone who is a fan of the One Chicago universe knows that the Intelligence Unit doesn't exactly play by the rules. However, if Voight gets involved with an ASA, conflict concerning his policing methods will undoubtedly arise.

Chapman is already well aware of Voight's tendency to go off the books. Still, if their relationship turns romantic, it will inevitably influence Voight's place in Intelligence and the unit's methodology concerning how they approach cases. Of course, this is all speculation. However, it would make sense given Chapman and Voight's scenes in the One Chicago trailer and the duo's history. Voight and Chapman have built trust, but she is the one person who isn't afraid to call him out on things, which could either help or hurt him in the upcoming episodes.

It's Time For Voight To Have A Personal Arc In Chicago PD

Voight Has Been Long Overdue For An Arc Revolving Around His Personal Life

Even though Voight is the main character in Chicago PD, he hasn't had a wide variety of personal story arcs since the show's beginning. So, Voight getting a love interest would do wonders not only for his character but also for the NBC police procedural series. A potential romance between Voight and Chapman could inject life into the show.

Plus, it's been a long time since Chicago PD has taken the time to introduce and develop a complex and compelling love story. With Upton and Halstead gone, a new couple is needed. It would just make sense for Voight and Chapman to take their relationship to the next level in Chicago PD season 12.
