Siri, meet ChatGPT. On Wednesday, Apple released updated versions of its iOS software, iOS 18.2, meaning that iPhone, iPad and Mac users can choose to integrate the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT with Apple's virtual assistant, Siri. Though ChatGPT has been available on the iPhone without iOS 18.2, this update integrates ChatGPT into Siri, if the user chooses.
You'll need to have an iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max or a device from the iPhone 16 lineup to receive the update, but even if you have another iPhone, you'll still get new features, including updates to your Mail and Find My apps.

You can download the update by going to Settings > General > Software Update, tapping Update Now and following the prompts on your screen.
You don't need a paid ChatGPT account to use the feature. But if you haven't already, you need to join the Apple Intelligence waitlist. Go to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and tap Join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist. It should take a few hours for you to get approved. You also have to waitlist to use Genmoji and Image Playground. (If your phone isn't one of the newest varieties, you won't have this option -- the standard iPhone 15 will not have it, though iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will.)
Now when you use Siri with ChatGPT integrated, you'll see a glowing light around your screen. If the question you ask Siri is one that ChatGPT might be able to help with, the phone should ask your permission to access ChatGPT for your queries.

According to Apple, communicating with Siri should now be more natural and helpful.
"Equipped with awareness of your personal context, the ability to take action in and across apps, and product knowledge about your devices' features and settings, Siri will be able to assist you like never before," the company said.
