Charter CFO Jessica Fischer joins Blackstone-Google AI venture

Jessica Fischer, who has served as CFO of Charter Communications since October 2021, is leaving to join the newly formed joint venture between Blackstone and Google that’s pouring billions into AI computing infrastructure. Her departure is set for October 15, 2026.

Fischer spent nearly a decade at Charter, one of the largest cable and broadband operators in the US, and is now heading to a venture that didn’t exist a few months ago.

The venture: Google’s chips, Blackstone’s checkbook

Blackstone and Google announced their joint venture on May 18, 2026, with Blackstone committing an initial $5B in equity. The operation has been dubbed a “TPU neocloud,” which is a fancy way of saying it will rent access to Google’s custom-designed Tensor Processing Units to outside customers.

Until now, those TPUs were primarily available through Google Cloud. The new venture essentially unbundles that access, offering compute-as-a-service alongside dedicated data center capacity.

The target is aggressive: 500 megawatts of operational capacity by 2027, with plans for significant expansion after that.

Benjamin Treynor Sloss, who spent more than two decades building infrastructure at Google, has been named CEO. Fischer will handle the financial architecture of a business that needs to deploy capital at scale.

Why Fischer, and why now

Fischer’s career at Charter followed a trajectory that maps neatly onto the skills this venture needs. She joined the company in 2017 as Deputy Treasurer, rose to EVP of Finance, and was elevated to CFO in October 2021.

Her departure also comes shortly after Charter completed its acquisition of Cox Communications, a deal that reshaped the US cable landscape.

Kevin Howard has been named interim CFO effective October 15. Charter said the transition would not affect its financial outlook.
