Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre has opened up about Charlie Sheen's infamous 2011 meltdown which saw him fired from the wildly successful show.

The 73-year-old showrunner appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience on Tuesday as he talked candidly about Sheen's highly-publicized spiral, which saw the star  coin terms like 'winning', 'tiger blood', and 'Adonis DNA.'

At the time, Sheen, now 61, was at the top of his professional career as the highest paid actor on television when he spiraled into substance abuse and mental health issues.

Lorre told 59-year-old podcaster Rogan: 'Well, in the eighth season it was clearly we were in trouble. It was it was you know when his manager calls me and says Charlie can't come to run through today at rehearsal.

'His BIC lighter blew up and he has no eyebrows. Now I'm somewhat naive to some of this stuff but I know BIC lighters they don't blow up.'

The Daily Mail has reached out to Sheen's representatives for comment and has yet to hear back.

Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre said he knew when the highly-popular sitcom was in trouble when it was claimed that Charlie Sheen (Above in Los Angeles in March 2011) had burned off his eyebrows

The 73-year-old showrunner appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience on Tuesday as he talked candidly about Sheen's highly-publicized 2011 meltdown where he coined terms like 'winning', 'tiger blood', and 'Adonis DNA'

At the time, the sitcom was the most-watched comedy on television, averaging roughly 14.7 million viewers but there was obvious trouble brewing with Sheen but Lorre admitted to having a blind spot as the series was doing so well.

He explained: 'I was determined to stay in denial. I just didn't want to know. I wanted to believe it was all okay. I was absolutely, you know, forcefully, you know, oblivious.

'I just wanted to believe it was all going to be okay just because the show was doing so well.'

Sheen had dozens of high-profile film roles under his belt and was raking in nearly two million an episode on his CBS hit sitcom Two and a Half Men.

Despite his flourishing professional success, internally the actor was heading down a dark path of addiction and mental health problems on the heels of his divorce from his third wife Brooke Mueller.

Sheen gave a series of highly publicized interviews - including one with ABC's 20/20 - with various news outlets where he appeared hyper, unhinged and scattered.

The glassy-eyed star uttered his now iconic phrases declaring he was 'winning', drinking 'tiger blood', had 'adonis DNA' and other ramblings.

When network executives tried to reel him in, he demanded a higher salary and engaged in a public feud with the powers that be at CBS like Lorre and Les Moonves.

Lorre told 59-year-old podcaster Rogan: 'Well, in the eighth season it was clearly we were in trouble. It was it was you know when his manager calls me and says Charlie can't come to run through today at rehearsal'

Lorre continued: 'His BIC lighter blew up and he has no eyebrows. Now I'm somewhat naive to some of this stuff but I know BIC lighters they don't blow up'

Sheen was fired from Two and a Half Men in March of 2011 and replaced in the series by Ashton Kutcher.

Unknown to the public at the time, Sheen had been diagnosed with HIV that same year- a fact he would later reveal in 2015. When he finally announced his diagnosis, the actor revealed that since 2011 he had shelled out nearly $10 million to keep his HIV status a secret.

The 2011 incidents were not Sheen's first or even second brush with substance abuse. Charlie has been arrested on drug and assault charges in the past and in 1998 he overdosed on cocaine, suffering a stroke.

He's also been to rehab several times for his issues.

After his firing from Two and a Half Men, Sheen performed a series of sold-out one-man shows at Radio City Music hall with hordes of fans wearing tiger blood T-shirts and screaming 'winning' from the audience.

On the heels of his breakdown, Sheen seemed to have righted himself and starred in the series Anger Management on FX for two seasons but then largely fell off the map.

Last year he was at the center of a two-part Netflix documentary miniseries titled AKA Charlie Sheen which documented his rise to fame and life of excess which led to his personal struggles.

Lorre went on to have two other massive hits on CBS in The Big Bang Theory which aired from 2007 to 2019 and spin-off Young Sheldon which aired from 2017 to 2024.
