As the entertainment industry grapples with the ever-evolving reality of artificial intelligence, Charlie Puth is leaning into the future.
The 4x Grammy nominee has been named chief music officer of the AI-powered music platform, Moises, which he noted he’s been using “for years” in his own creative process, with his fourth studio album Whatever’s Clever! releasing March 27.
“Every musician I know is using Moises, and I’ve been using it in my own creative process for years,” said Puth in a statement. “It opens up possibilities that used to take hours or expensive studio setups, whether that’s isolating vocals to study technique or experimenting with arrangements in real time. AI, when done right, isn’t here to replace musicians. It’s here to help artists learn, explore, and bring their ideas to life.”
The announcement was met with some criticism from fans. “Boo!!! We declared Charlie Puth should quit being an artist,” wrote one X user in response to a since-deleted post from Puth about the news.
Others showed more faith in Puth. “Moises claims that it only uses ethically sourced noises and music and I hope that is true because Charlie Puth is a great song-writer,” they posted.
In his new position, Puth will help guide creative and product direction, collaborate on artist-focused features and bring his experience as a working musician to the platform, which boasts more than 70 million users worldwide.
Kicking off the partnership with a contest, Puth will personally choose the best remix or cover of his new single ‘Beat Yourself Up’ via Moises Jam Session, with submissions open through March.
