Charlie Brooks has revealed her diet and fitness regime after overhauling her routine amid fears she'll need a hip replacement.

The EastEnders actress, 45, explained that she was forced to adjust her workout plans after suffering hip pain so painful she wanted to 'cut her leg off', with doctors advising she swap running for weight-bearing exercises.

While Charlie revealed she may still need a hip replacement in the future, she said her new routine was working wonders, explaining: 'I feel stronger, I feel more energised and healthier in my mind.

'As you progress, you can lift heavier, you can do more reps and you feel yourself getting stronger. When you see your muscles growing and your body changing, that's a massive motivator.'

Charlie, who has run four marathons, won the Strictly Christmas Special and competed on Dancing On Ice, went on to note that her fitness has 'transformed' since she started following a programme with a remote trainer four times a week, and ensuring she consumes 2,500 calories a day.

Detailing her typical daily diet, Charlie shared: 'I start every day with a protein shake and a couple of eggs. Lunch might be a chilli beef wrap, but I also enjoy rice with avocado, chicken, protein bagels and a little chocolate.'

Charlie said her fitness has 'transformed' since she started following a programme with a remote trainer four times a week, and ensuring she consumes 2,500 calories a day

She added to Closer magazine: 'I take a lot of supplements too - I start my day with creatine, apple cider vinegar, electrolytes and fish oil, plus I take magnesium for sleep.'

Charlie also revealed that she spends time focusing on her mind, doing meditation and breathwork.

The soap star, who gave up alcohol seven years ago, added that she felt ready to make a change to her lifestyle when she began approaching her 40s, explaining: 'While it's not been a perfect journey, it's definitely been a game-changer.

'I really started feeling like I was living life more. Life got more colourful for me.'

Charlie's wellbeing overhaul followed years of body confidence issues, with the actress revealing she became 'obsessed' with losing weight after shedding two stone in just two months.

The actress filmed her fitness DVD, Charlie Brooks’ Before & After Workout, in 2005 and now revealed how the process affected her confidence.

Speaking with Fabulous Magazine in 2021, Charlie explained that she's always had a 'complicated relationship' with her body and the DVD made that 'extreme'.

Charlie said: 'I don't regret it, because it gave me an awareness of my body, but on the other hand, I crossed over into that kind of slightly obsessive weight loss thing.

'You know, always wanting to get back to "that".

'I've definitely had quite a complicated relationship with my body, never feeling pretty enough or healthy enough, and with the DVD, it was extreme. I went all in.'

Charlie added that she still struggles at times with accepting her figure and can feel 'disgusting', but is now about '70 per cent' of the way to body acceptance.

The soap star previously revealed how she became 'obsessed' with losing weight after shedding a whopping 2st in just two months (pictured in 2002)

Speaking to the Daily Mail later that year, Charlie revealed she had been working hard on making positive changes in her life.

She said: 'Over the last couple of years I made some changes in my life that are really really important, if I hadn't made those changes then 40 might have been really tough for me.

'But I've put quite a lot into place and changed my lifestyle and put a lot into who I am and where I want to be, and rediscovering everything I love that I'd possibly forgotten about...

'There's a certain confidence that comes with age. Don't get me wrong, some days I wake up and I feel inarticulate and all of those things, it's a work in progress 100 percent, but I feel more confident in who I am in what I offer and what I'm capable of.'
