EXCLUSIVE: Charli xcx will be possessed by a violent, tortured spirit in Takashi Miike‘s anticipated untitled slasher-horror film, which is due to start filming in Japan next month, we can reveal.
The Brat star is joined in the movie by Milly Alcock (Supergirl), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), actress, model and singer Kiko Mizuhara (Attack On Titan) and Show Kasamatsu (Tokyo Vice).
Known as Untitled Kyoto, the film will follow “three best friends who meet up in Kyoto to rekindle their lifelong friendships. What is intended to be a care-free girls trip devolves into a nightmare, unfolding across the streets of Kyoto, when Katie (Charli xcx) becomes possessed by a violent, tortured spirit (Mizuhara) in the Japanese horror tradition”.
The Veterans and CAA Media Finance are launching international sales on the buzzy package ahead of next week’s European Film Market in Berlin where horror movies are clearly the order of the day.
Ross Evans and Yumiko Aoyagi wrote the script, which is inspired from an original idea of Charli and Miike. Miike’s longtime producing partner Misako Saka will executive-produce on his behalf.
Charli xcx is producing through her studio365 banner whose The Moment is currently in theatrical release via A24 and just racked up the studio’s third-biggest limited release. Also producing are Good World Productions, Yumiko Aoyagi Productions and OLM. Alex Peace-Power will executive-produce.
