Chad Michael Murray gushes about filming Freakier Friday with Lindsay Lohan: 'Felt like a high school reunion'

Chad Michael Murray reflected on his experience returning to the Freaky Friday franchise with Lindsay Lohan. 

The One Tree Hill star, 43, sat on a Q&A panel at Christmas Con 2024 in New Jersey earlier this month where he was asked what it was like working on the upcoming sequel to the 2003 film, according to People. 

'It was awesome. It was just a nostalgic kick,' Murray said. 'It felt like a high school reunion, you know? 

'It felt like no time had passed, and yet we had entire lives in between.' 

Saying, it's been '23 years since we were on set doing the first one,' he noted that he had a hard time keeping up with who was playing who as they filmed the body-swapping movie 

'There [were] moments where I'm sitting there going, "Okay, who's who?" ... I was really focused. I had to do my homework, like, a lot, and then I'd still get it wrong,' he teased. 'But it was great. So much fun.' 

In Freakier Friday, Murray reprises his role as Jake while Lohan, 38, and Jamie Lee Curtis, 66, return to the roles of Anna and Tess Coleman.

The 2003 film was a remake of the original 1976 film starring Barbara Harris and a young Jodie Foster.

Both films were based on Mary Rodgers' 1972 Freaky Friday novel. 

The story follows a mother and daughter who switch bodies after reading a mystical Chinese fortune cookie and must pretend to be each other until they figure out how to switch back. 

In the new film, Anna and Tess switch bodies with two teenage girls. 

Filming for the second installment of was announced in March and comes over two decades after the debut film was released.

When asked about the sequel, Lohan told People, 'I'm just excited to work with Jamie again and see how much further we can take it,' she said.

Freakier Friday will hit theaters on Aug. 8, 2025. 

While Murray was happy to step back into the role of Jake for the Freaky Friday sequel, he will not be reprising his role as Lucas Scott in the One Tree Hill reboot.

The reason for this is that he has zero desire to work with his ex-wife Sophia Bush, insiders claim.

Bush and her fellow costar Hilarie Burton, both 42, confirmed in August that a new series is in the works for Netflix - with the pair both serving as executive producers.

The hit series, which ran from 2003 until 2012, was famed for a number of explosive storylines - but equally as dramatic were the real life fall outs behind-the-scenes, including Murray and Bush's acrimonious divorce.

The 2005 split was so divisive that Murray does not wish to reunite with, or work for, his ex on the upcoming project.

'There’s no love lost between Chad and Sophia,' an insider told DailyMail.com. 'They’ve both moved on in their personal lives since divorcing.'

Bush and Murray officially started dating in 2003 and tied the knot in 2005 in Santa Monica.

They celebrated at Hotel Casa del Mar with their friends and family, but split just five months later with rumors Murray had cheated on Bush with Paris Hilton.

It was rumored at the time that Murray had stepped out on their marriage with none other than his House of Wax costar Paris Hilton.

Bush attempted to get the marriage annulled, citing fraud, but her efforts were unsuccessful, and the divorce was ultimately finalized in 2006. 

'Sophia attempted to have their marriage annulled, citing fraud, but she was denied,' the source continued. 'The last thing Chad wants or needs is to work with, or for, Sophia.

'With her producer credit it means she’d be his boss. No amount of money would get him to agree to go back.'
