Chad Lowe and his family made their first public appearance since the tragic death of 13-year-old daughter Fiona to attend the wedding of a relative. 

The 58-year-old actor emerged at his nephew Matthew Lowe's wedding to Emily Markus in Santa Barbara over the weekend.

It comes just weeks after Chad's daughter Fiona died by suicide on September 29. 

Chad was dressed in a blue suit, white shirt, and striped blue tie for the family affair.

He was joined by wife Kim Painter and their daughters Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10.

The grieving father managed to put on a smile, and Painter affectionately wrapped her arm around Nixie during one moment.

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Chad for comment but has not yet heard back.

The outdoor ceremony was officiated by actress Gwyneth Paltrow, with Rob and wife Sheryl Berkoff sitting in the front row, Page Six reported on Saturday. 

Rob and Berkoff are also parents to son John, 30, who sat next to them. 

Other celebrities guests including Katy Perry, Adam Levine, Cameron Diaz, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt and Maria Shriver were also in attendance.

Markus wore a strapless white gown with a train, and a sheer white veil was set at the back of her head.

The groom, 33, wore a classic black suit and a white shirt for the special day. Matthew and his new wife got engaged in 2025 after several years of dating.

Chad returned to Instagram on Wednesday with a reposted video shared to his Instagram Stories that featured a clip of Irish writer Gerry Hussey.

In the video excerpt, Hussey mused on the state of the soul after death during an appearance on Olivia Hunt's On Healing podcast.

'It is a frequency. It's an energy field. And we possess it all the time within ourselves. We are all part of the frequency,' Hussey said. 'We all possess direct access to that.'

'We both possess the human and the divine,' he continued in the outtake. 'We are connected to everything that is. It just makes sense, and there’s nothing there but peace and love. So when we die, where do we go? We return to a state of peace and love.'

Chad's return to social media came after his nephew John Owen, his brother Rob's older son, shared a poem about hope days after Fiona's death.

John used Instagram Stories to post Emily Dickinson's poem Hope Is the Thing With Feathers.

'Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all,' the missive reads.

'And sweetest in the gale is heard; and sore must be the storm that could abash the little bird that kept so many warm,' it goes on.

'I've heard it in the chillest land, and on the strangest sea; yet, never, in extremity, it asked a crumb of me.'

Emergency services responded to Chad's family home at 12:10am on Tuesday, September 29, and Fiona was transported to a hospital, where the medical examiner said she was pronounced dead at 1:14am. 

In a statement to People, Chad and his casting director wife remembered Fiona as 'a loving young girl who was smart, creative, and loved to dance.'

The note continued: 'We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives.

'Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.'
