Romesh Ranganathan has said he feels 'utterly humiliated' after the Faithfuls were branded the 'worst of all time' following Friday's episode.

In a spectacular own goal, the group chose to vote for Maya Jama, James Acaster and King Kenny as the three contestants they 'trusted most', giving them a special power.

Speaking about what the show was like behind-the-scenes, Romesh, 48, said on his Radio 2 show on Saturday: 'I’ll tell you a couple of things. The first thing that I imagine, if you’ve been watching, that’s paramount in your mind is the complete and utter humiliation of being asked in the scarecrow task to pick our most Faithful people to potentially get the special power, and we chose the Traitors.

'I’m going to tell you now, not ideal. I had to stay off socials, just loads of people doing TikToks going, "oh my God how thick are they? This has got to be the worst set of Faithfuls I’ve ever seen in my life!" More difficult than it looks! Anyway, that was humiliating, it was really humiliating.

'And the other thing, when you do the show they say to you, "there are two parts to doing this show, and the first part is actually filming the show, and then the second part is the show going out", because, obviously, you’re seeing stuff that you didn’t know was going on, and also I’m seeing conversations that I never had any awareness of.'

Romesh said he was watching with viewers and had no idea the Traitors had fallen out during the shield challenge after James A refused to take off his blindfold and sabotage shields.

The comedian also said he sacrificed himself for the good of the group in two challenges, but found the lack of concern from the others 'insulting'.

He said: 'What I would say, if you watch back the episodes, there are two consecutive missions in which I am eliminated early because I sacrifice myself. The lack of concern from the other contestants is what I would describe as insulting!'

Viewers believe the Faithful don't have a hope in winning the jackpot after Friday's episode saw them vote for the three Traitors as the most trustworthy.

The scenes unfolded when the stars entered a ‘field of screams’, where scarecrows bearing each of their names stood beside pitchforks.

Working in pairs, one celebrity collected bags of gold worth £500 while the other hung them on the pitchforks to bank the cash.

Three bags on one pitchfork blew up its scarecrow, knocking that celebrity out of the running for a secret power.

Kenny was awarded a dagger carrying a double vote, while the stars added £13,500 to the charity prize fund, taking it to £59,500.

Viewers wrote on X: 'As if they've picked the three actual Traitors to have the possibility of winning the special power. The worse set of Faithfuls of all time.'

'No way the three they chose were the three Traitors'

'Wow the Faithfuls are so bad at this game'

'All three of the Celebrity Traitors were the most trusted of the group. Yeah it's definitely a Traitor win this year!'

'By the end of this series, there won't be any Faithfuls left.'

'These Faithfuls haven't got a clue . The three they named the most trustworthy are the three Traitors?!'

His advantage was set to prove decisive when the Round Table vote left Sharon Rooney, 38, and McNally, 43, fighting for survival.
