Catherine Zeta-Jones still isn't sure if living away from Hollywood has been 'detrimental to her career.'

The 56-year-old actress - who has been married to fellow actor Michael Douglas, 81, since 2000 - has opened up on how living in New York City has impacted both her professional and personal life.

'It's funny. I've lived on the East Coast and for many, many years with Michael, and it's interesting whether it's been detrimental to my career,' she told People magazine this week.

'I never quite know, because I've never been in LA schmoozing.'

The Wednesday star - who has kids Dylan, 25, and Carys, 22, with her husband - admitted she her friendships revolve more around business, finance and art than typical Hollywood types.

She added: 'In fact, I spend more time with New York business people, Wall Street people, art people.

'Our friends and our people we bump into are different than I would be if I was in LA.

'And that's not detrimental to LA and people who live there at all; it's just I swing in a few different roundabouts here in the city.'

Living in New York City does not seem to have had a negative impact on her career as she has three projects this year: The Gallerist, more Wednesday and Kill Jackie.

Meanwhile, the beauty and her Hollywood legend spouse recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last year, and she believes that their like-minded attitudes have enabled their marriage to stay strong.

She told The Sunday Times: 'Two celebrities together make 10. It's just the way it is. There's two versions of the story and there's two make-believes.

'We don't listen to the crap that is written about us, that's the main thing. And we respect our space, we're independent spirits.

'We are very similar; we were born on the same day, 25 years apart. We're not afraid to be verbal, to express ourselves. I wear everything on my sleeve and so does he, which is good.'

Last year she said she believes 'we can all relate' to the Addams family's 'dynamic.'

The actress plays Morticia Addams in Wednesday, the hit Netflix show, and Catherine believes the Addams family are 'absolutely grounded in truth'.

She told TODAY.com: 'That's one of the wonderful things about the family dynamic within the show Wednesday is that we can all relate to that. Because I think that, as per Tim (Burton) notes, we keep these characters real. We're not caricatures. We're real people.'

Morticia is often perceived to be a constant critic of her daughter, Wednesday. However, Zeta-Jones believes the mother-daughter relationship is more nuanced than some viewers acknowledge.

The actress said: 'There's a part of Morticia that wants Wednesday to be exactly how she is. There's a strength to this young woman.

'She has all the outcast attributes and the abilities that are part of Morticia's world, but there's a defiance that Morticia never had that Wednesday has.'

She heaped praise on Jenna Ortega, describing her co-star as 'amazing'.

The actress praised Jenna's professional approach to their sword fight scene on the show.

She told People: 'We did rehearse it. It's like choreography and stunts. You know, we have to be careful. These are real weapons we're working with.'

The siren observed that her costar, 22, made time in her busy schedule so that they could prepare properly for the scene.

Zeta-Jones said: 'She'd find time in her schedule, which is a much bigger schedule than mine, to come and rehearse with me, and then we worked it with the stunt coordinator, and it turned out really fabulous.'

The icon also praised Luis Guzman, who plays Gomez Addams, for his pre-shoot preparations. The duo teamed-up to perform a tango, and Catherine revealed that Luis 'just really worked hard'. She shared: 'We used to rehearse the four scenes outside, dodging the rain, sometimes in Ireland, in gravel to keep it every day, to keep it fresh. Because, of course, we learned it at the beginning of the show. We weren't shooting it for weeks, three months later. So to keep it fresh and to remember our moves every now and again, we just jump together and we do it. And we laughed.'
