EXCLUSIVE: Welcome to the first series dedicated to the fine art of casting.
Casting Society has set a March 10 premiere date for The Callback, its new YouTube interview series that explores the artistry, impact and evolving role of casting across film, TV, commercials and theater. Watch the trailer featuring Star Wars legend Mark Hamill below.
Hamill will be a presenter at Casting Society’s Artios Awards tonight, where he will introduce The Callback to the crowd. He sits down in the premiere episode for a conversation with longtime friend and collaborator Rich Delia, a 14-time Artios Awards nominee and winner for Dallas Buyers Club. Their wide-ranging chat focuses on Hamill’s extraordinary career, from his breakout role in George Lucas 1977 sci-fi masterpiece to his latest film, The Long Walk, for which Delia served as casting director. They also will examine the casting decisions that helped shape some of the most enduring stories in modern cinema.
The Callback arrives days before the first Academy Award for Best Casting will be presented. The inaugural nominees in the category, which was announced two years ago, are Nina Gold for Hamnet, Jennifer Venditti (Marty Supreme), Cassandra Kulukundis (One Battle after Another), Gabriel Domingues (The Secret Agent) and Francine Maisler (Sinners).
“The Callback is about pulling back the curtain on a craft that profoundly shapes the entertainment we all experience,” CSA President Destiny Lilly said. “With the introduction of the first Academy Award for Outstanding Casting this year, our profession is finally receiving the recognition it has long deserved, and its impact has never been more visible.”
Upcoming episodes of The Callback include conversations with Magical Elves SVP Casting Ron Mare with the casting team from Top Chef, and Love Island casting director Jodi Thomas chatting with contestant Deborah “Deb” Chubb. Additional guests and episode details will be announced soon.
CSA created the series in partnership with Los Angeles-based TSMA Studios, a leading production company for YouTube, where all episodes will be available to stream.
