"Forbidden Requiem" would sell billions, Capcom
Resident Evil Requiem is getting a story expansion and a new minigame, together with the already-promised photo mode, Capcom have announced. What the expansion and minigame involve remains unclear, but there is just the dimmest possibility that we'll finally be able to play the official Leon Kennedy Meet 'n' F*ck game of our wildest dreams.
In a short video posted on Xitter today, director Koshi Nakanishi thanks you, I and the rest of the Residentially Evil fanbase for the game's series record sales, which have topped five million copies. Five million! You would not dare count up that high. You'd die of vertigo before you got halfway.
Nakanishi also touches on "the much-awaited photo mode", before revealing that a mysterious minigame is coming to Requiem "around May".
What could this minigame be? Evidently flush with the kind of confidence you get from selling five million of a thing, Nakanishi refuses to say more. Instead, he theatrically ruffles through a sheaf of print-outs of spoof Resident Evil projects - a bodice-ripping Leon Kennedy-helmed romance spin-off called Forbidden Requiem, some cat DLC, some BBQ DLC, a first-person cardgame, and a Bejewelled-style gem-matching puzzler - before lighting on today's final announcement, the Resident Evil Requiem story expansion. This "delves deeper into the world of Requiem", and will also "take some time, so we ask for your patience".
It's possible that one of the aforesaid spoof Resi projects is actually real, I guess. My money's on the bodice-ripper. A dating sim starring Requiem's saucily wrinkled Leon Kennedy would sell billions, Capcom. It would make the numbered Resident Evil series look like the pathetic sideshow we always, secretly, knew it to be.
