The Cannes Film Festival will announce the Official Selection for its 79th edition, running from May 12 to May 23, on April 9 in Paris.
Cannes Delegate General Thierry Frémaux and President Iris Knobloch will preside over the press conference.
The setting of the press conference date follows last week’s announcement that South Korean Old Boy and No Other Choice director Park Chan-wook will preside over the jury, with the rest of its members still to be announced.
The festival is coming off a buzzy 78th edition which world premiered four of the five films nominated for Best International Feature Film in the 98th Academy Awards, spanning Palme d’Or winner It Was Just An Accident, Grand Prize winner Sentimental Value, Jury Prize winner Sirāt and The Secret Agent, for which
Kleber Mendonça Filho won best director and Wagner Moura, best actor.
The 2025 edition also Kelly Reichardt’s The Mastermind and Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague play in Competition, while Kristen Stewart and Scarlett Johansson unveiled their respective feature directorial debuts, The Chronology of Water and Eleanor the Great, in Un Certain Regard.
Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie also hit the Croisette with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which played Out of Competition as did Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest.
